Job Summary:

As our Standards and Assessment Unit Manager, you will work with fellow Unit Managers and the Section manager to ensure unit operations are efficient and effective. Unit operations include:

1) Developing, reviewing and revising surface water quality standards

2) Assessing the health of surface water based on the established standards

3) Conducting rulemaking to update and establish standards in the Arizona Administrative Code.

This position is available for remote work on a full-time basis within Arizona (including virtual office arrangements).

Job Duties:

This position is responsible for supervising staff including assigning work, setting priorities, monitoring and evaluating performance, developing and providing training to staff. The position is also responsible for ensuring that all unit work products are technically sound to meet program goals and State and Federal statutes and/or rules and regulations. Tasks include reviewing and evaluating technical reports, community and stakeholder engagement, and document review and approval. This position will also attends meeting with other ADEQ supervisory/managerial staff to give and receive information and to participate in discussion, problem resolution and decision-making.


All ADEQ Managers champion continuous improvement projects, recommending and implementing program or operational improvements; assist in the development of agency goals and strategies; develop policies and procedures related to environmental programs; ensure the team operations meet established timelines and objectives; provide guidance and interpretation of federal and state laws/regulations related to complex regulatory situations; manage the most complex or high profile projects or assignments.

Selective Preference(s):

• Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, environmental management, environmental or chemical engineering, biology, chemistry, or other environmental discipline
• 3-5 years environmental experience in a regulatory agency, consulting, or private industry
• 2 years of supervisory/leadership experience
• Knowledge of management techniques, particularly the coordination of personnel and resources through results-driven leadership, including task delegation, performance specifications, employee motivation, team based problem solving and principles of performance and visual management; analytical data collection, analysis and interpretation, statistical procedures and testing methods; contract and procurement procedures; project management and community involvement principles; data management principles and techniques to assure data integrity; public relations and meeting facilitation
