What You'll Do:

Under minimal supervision, the Accountant 1 is responsible for the grant life cycle management of close to 80 ADHS grants totaling over $600 million. This includes ensuring cost structures have been set up, federal budgets are maintained, updating eCivis, researching and identifying potential problem areas and problem-solving for resolution, reviewing standard work for accuracy, and assisting other areas of the Controller's Office when needed.

Job Duties:

-Performs defined grant life cycle management tasks. These tasks include creating a cost structure in AFIS for new or re-occurring grants, reviewing and approving federal budget transfers, and entering grants into eCivis. Makes entries and processes grant documents within the Arizona Financial Information System (AFIS).
-When necessary, this position will assist the Revenue Team and Accounts Payable team as needed. This consists of AP processing/uploading and revenue tasks such as check intake, sorting mail, and deposits.
-Cross-trains on a variety of accounting processes and procedures within the Controller's Office to gain knowledge and to be able to fill in as needed during short-term absences of other accountants.
-Reviewing standard work, monitoring the different federal reporting systems for grant information, and passing that information on to the programs.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

Knowledge of:
- Economic and accounting principles and practices; the analysis and reporting of financial data.
- Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP); comprehensive knowledge of the principles, concepts, practices, methods, and techniques of government accounting.
- Internal control structures and fiscal management.
- Considerable knowledge of the methods and techniques of automated financial systems.
- Comprehensive knowledge of reference materials such as federal regulations, Arizona Revised Statutes, applicable agency manuals, and policies and procedures.
- Working knowledge of financial research methodologies.
- Considerable skill in analysis, interpretation, and communication of financial data.
- Performance Management (PM), Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI), and Lean methodologies.

Skill in:
- Analysis, interpretation, and analysis of financial data.

Ability to:
- Effectively analyze, interpret, and communicate financial data.
- Work independently on certain tasks.

Selective Preference(s):

Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or a closely related field is required. Preference is given to candidates with recent accounting experience.
