Job Summary:

Under the general supervision of the Accounts Payable Supervisor, the Fixed Asset Accountant is responsible for the timely and accurate accounting and reporting of additions, deletions, transfers, adjustments and disposals of the Department’s capitalized and non-capitalized assets, AFIS profiles and reporting.

Job Duties:

Major duties include:
Administering the Fixed Asset System, maintaining the records of fixed assets in the statewide accounting system (AFIS) and hard copy files
Recording additions, deletions, transfers, adjustments and disposals of the Department’s capitalized and non-capitalized assets
Developing and distributing inventory reports by site on an annual basis or as requested
Perform research and update the fixed asset information in AFIS based off inventory results
Prepare transfer documents and generate journal entries as appropriate to ensure costs are allocated correctly
Provide guidance and education to supervisory personnel surrounding the policies and procedures applicable to fixed assets
Coordinate the annual inventory process
Reviews and approves requisitions in Arizona Procurement Portal (APP) for correct account coding and appropriateness
Prepares specialty reports as requested
Cross Trained in other duties of accounts payable and Accounting
Performs other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

The candidate must have knowledge in/of budget principle, including an understanding of State laws, rules, regulations, policies and practices relating to budget development and appropriations legislation, government organization, budgeting and fiscal control, financial reporting, including interpreting State of Arizona’s financial reports and schedules and Code of Federal Regulations and OMB Circulars.
Candidates will be skilled in the analysis and evaluation of budget requests and recommendations, developing interpersonal relationships as applied to interaction with a variety of department staff, financial analysis, oral and written communication, and software applications including Microsoft Office or Google Docs and Sheets.

Selective Preference(s):

The ideal candidate will be able to accurately forecast revenue and expenditure needs, generate, read and interpret financial data, budget requests and recommendations, manage demanding workload relationships with people, and work independently under general direction and make sound judgements and decisions.
The preferred candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree with a major in finance, business administration, accounting or related subject, and/or two years of accounting/bookkeeping work experience and one year of fixed asset accounting experience.

Pre-Employment Requirements:

Position requires possession of and the ability to retain a current, valid state-issued driver’s license appropriate to the assignment. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records and must complete any required driver training (see Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207.12.).
