This position is assigned to our General Accounting group within the ADHS Controller's Office and works under general supervision of an Accounting Supervisor as an Accountant 2. Makes practical applications of technical accounting principles, theories, and concepts beyond the mere application of detailed rules and instructions pertaining to a specific system. Performs assignments that are designed to expand practical experience and continue development of professional judgment in the application of basic accounting techniques, such as examining a variety of financial statements for completeness, accuracy, and conformance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and other agency-specific accounting requirements. Maintains effective fiscal management by analyzing, interpreting, and evaluating accounting and reporting systems, procedures, policies, and methods. Reviews, gathers, compiles, and processes data entry for complex inter and intra agency revenue and expense transfers. Coordinates intra-agency transfers with appropriate program finance managers, Coordinates Inter-agency transfers with financial staff in other agencies to ensure accurate and timely processing of all transfers. Performs complex and difficult accounting assignments, specializing in the General Accounting segment of the Controller's Office. Suggests solutions to identified financial problems. This position also provides assistance and backup to the data entry aspects of the Direct/lndirect Cost Desk.

Reviews, gathers, compiles, and processes data entry for complex inter and intra agency revenue and expense transfers. Coordinates intra-agency transfers with appropriate program finance managers. Coordinates inter-agency transfers with financial staff in other agencies to ensure accurate and timely processing of all transfers. Reviews and research negative expenditures. Gathers, compiles, and files use tax with Department of Revenue on a monthly basis to avoid penalties.
Suggest solutions to identified financial problems. Assists with trainings. This position also provides assistance and backup to the data entry aspects of the Direct/Indirect Cost Desk.
Performs complex and difficult accounting assignments, specializing in the General Accounting segment of the Controller's Office. Works on a variety of special projects, and cross-trains.
Other duties as assigned as related to the position
Knowledge of:
-Accounting principles and practices, and the reporting of financial data.
-Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Governmental Accounting Standards Board(GASB)
-Principles, concepts, practices, and methods of government accounting.
-Automated accounting systems and internal control structures.
-Federal grant regulations, AZ Revised Statutes, and agency policies and procedures.
- Performance Management (PM), and Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) and Lean methodologies.
Skill in:
-Analysis, interpretation, and communication of financial data.
-Effective time management
-Effective communication, both oral and written
-Intermediate or advanced skills in Excel, including macros and pivot tables.
-Work organization
-Maintain accounting records through automated accounting systems, including PC and mainframe computer skills
Ability to:
-Learn Internal control structures, and fiscal management
-Work independently under general supervision of the General Accounting Supervisor.

Bachelor’s Degree in accounting required; One year experience as an Accountant 1 or equivalent
