Job Summary:

The Arizona Department of Housing is seeking a highly motivated individual to serve as an Accountant 2 within the Finance & Accounting Division. Under the supervision of the Accounting Supervisor, this position performs high-volume accounting work in support of state and federally funded programs, including those administered by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and the U.S. Department of the Treasury. This position is responsible for performing financial tasks such as accounts payable and accounts receivable, applying established accounting principles, theories, and practices. The Accountant 2 will review and reconcile financial reports and data, identify and correct discrepancies, and ensure the accuracy and completeness of accounting records and financial statements. The position utilizes the State of Arizona’s Financial Management System (AZ360) and other state financial platforms to retrieve and analyze data, track revenues and expenditures, monitor contract status, and support financial reporting. Additional duties may be assigned as related to the position.

Job Duties:

This position is responsible for performing financial responsibilities such as accounts payable and accounts receivable, applying established accounting principles, theories, and practices. The position utilizes the State of Arizona’s Financial Management System (AZ360) and other state financial platforms to retrieve and analyze data, track revenues and expenditures, and support financial reporting.

- Perform high-volume accounting tasks for the Arizona Department of Housing under the supervision of the Accounting Supervisor within the Finance & Accounting Division.
- Support accounting functions for state and federally funded programs administered by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and the U.S. Department of the Treasury.
- Review and reconcile financial reports and data, identifying and correcting discrepancies or errors.
- Utilize state financial systems and related applications to retrieve data, analyze information, and monitor revenues, expenditures, and contract status, encumbrances, and vendor records.
- Prepare, examine, and analyze accounting records, financial statements, and reports to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Process deposits, payments, refunds, and other financial transactions accurately and timely.
- Support Purchase Card, Ghost Card, Fleet, and payment-related activities as needed.
- Maintain ledgers and perform reconciliations across multiple funding sources.
- Provide general administrative accounting support, including monitoring shared inboxes and responding to inquiries.
- Perform additional duties as assigned related to the position.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

The ideal candidate will have experience performing accounting support functions within a state government or federal grant-funded environment and the ability to work independently with minimal oversight. Proficiency in Arizona’s Financial Management (AZ360) and infoAdvantage reporting systems. Strong understanding of accounting principles and practices; advanced Microsoft Excel, Adobe Acrobat, and Google Workspace skills.

Seeking a detail-oriented professional capable of delivering high-quality, comprehensive, accurate reports under tight deadlines. Ability to manage high-volume workloads. Ability to manage sensitive and confidential information with discretion is essential. Strong interpersonal skills, including diplomacy and professionalism when collaborating with agency personnel to obtain information for reporting purposes, are also required.

Retirement:

State employees are required to participate in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS), the State sponsored retirement contribution plan and the Long-Term Disability (LTD) program. New ASRS members will have a 27-week waiting period for membership. The ASRS defined benefit plan provides for life-long income upon retirement.
