Job Summary:

The Accountant II analyzes/completes payments, deposits, adjustments, transfers, and other financial documents as needed, it also tracks payments received by the agency. Performs financial forecasting, reporting, and operational metrics tracking. Analyzes financial data and create financial models for decision support, monitoring of expenditures and revenues. Accountant II also monitors funds, appropriation balances, and revenue collections. Reconciling and analyzing encumbrances and expenditures. This positions assists with developing and implementing reconciliation processes for expenditures and revenues. It reviews current practices, identifies risk, recommends solutions and develops standard work and training materials. This position also plays a role in examining various sources of data to determine trends and identify cost drivers and incorporate those findings into financial analyses.

Job Duties:
  • Analyze, prepare, monitor, extract, collect, explain, interpret and report on revenue and expenditure data from all fund sources.
  • Monitors and reporting of variances in financial positions.
  • Performs reconciliations, research and analysis to resolve complex financials issues reporting on trends, inconsistencies, anomalies, outliers and missing pieces.
  • Prepares charts, tables, dashboards and other exhibits.
  • Initiating, coordinating and implementing continuous quality improvement processes.
  • Establish and documents standard work, workflows, identifying problems, and collaborating to find solutions.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

Knowledge of:

  • Generally accepted accounting principles and practices.
  • The Arizona State General Accounting Manual.
  • State statutes, rules and regulations as they pertain to the Department.
  • Principles, concepts, practices, methods and techniques of government fund accounting and fiscal management.
  • The methods and techniques of data processing as it relates to accounting practices.
  • Continuous improvement in streamlining work processes.

Skills in:

  • Applying auditing and accounting methods and techniques.
  • Methods and techniques of automated financial systems.
  • Considerable skill in analysis, interpretation and communication of financial data.

Pre-Employment Requirements:

Candidates for this position will be required to submit to a criminal history investigation. Requires possession of and ability to retain a current, valid state-issued driver’s license appropriate to the assignment. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records and must complete any required driver training (see Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207.12.)
