Job Summary:

The position compiles, analyzes, and verifies refund documentation for accuracy, timeliness and integrity. Responsibilities include processing Fuel Tax, IFTA and miscellaneous revenue refunds, verifying calculations, reconciling data using spreadsheets, maintaining records to meet deadlines and ensuring compliance with the State policies. Conducts research inquiries and provides professional verbal and written correspondence.

This position may be available for remote work within Arizona (Two (2) days per week in the office/hoteling).

Job Duties:

Gather, review, and interpret daily refund requests for accuracy, timeliness and compliance. Make corrections and/or adjustments if needed. Verify accuracy of refund codes and amounts. Provide excellent customer service.

Maintain records and files to substantiate all transactions are completed within State statutes, rules, department policies, and procedures.

Correspond in a professional manner in writing and verbally with other agencies and taxpayers. Research refund inquiries from taxpayers and agency personnel.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

Knowledge of:
• Principles of fiscal and governmental accounting
• Title 28, Arizona Revised Statutes
• Arizona Administrative Codes
• State and ADOT policies, rules, and regulations
• The automated accounting systems used by the State and ADOT
• Mainframe and PC accounting systems

Skill in/with:
• Effective, professional and oral and written communication
• Utilizing computer spreadsheets, databases, and other automated tools to complete work task effectively and accurately
• Reconciling complex accounts
• Research and problem-solving skills
• Organizational skills
• Prioritizing work activities and other to ensure that deadlines are met
• Interacting effectively with internal and external stakeholders.

Ability to:
• Communicate in a clear and professional manner, both verbally and in writing
• Synthesize a complex work task and/or situation, and present recommendations for a course of action
• Mathematics and accounting proficiency
• Complex financial/process analysis and interpretation
• Understand and use computers, and accounting software for performing complex financial tasks

Selective Preference(s):

12 Semester hours or one year governmental accounting experience which includes experience with reconciliations and working with spreadsheets and deposits or two years accounting experience.
Knowledge of the MAX systems.

Pre-Employment Requirements:

This position requires driving or the use of a vehicle as an essential function of the job, and the following requirements apply. Any employee operating a motor vehicle on State business must possess and retain a current, valid class-appropriate driver’s license, complete all required training, and successfully pass all necessary driver’s license record checks. The license must be current, unexpired, and neither revoked nor suspended. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records, and must complete all required driver training. An employee who operates a personally owned vehicle on state business shall maintain the statutorily required liability insurance (see Arizona Administrative Code (A.A.C.) R2-10-207.11).
