Job Summary:

The Arizona Department of Juvenile Corrections (ADJC) is seeking an Accounting Specialist 2 who will be responsible for performing fiscal functions and providing support to the Accounting and Payroll Units as well as the Business and Finance Bureau of the Department which includes the Bureau Administrator, Chief Financial Officer, Payroll Clerk and Procurement.

Job Duties:

General accounting functions in compliance with GAAP, State and agency policies

 Accounts Payable: Process payments to vendors timely; contact vendors for billing issues 

Accounts Receivable: post negotiables to appropriate accounts and process deposits 

Ensure vendors are compensated for goods and services rendered 

Process vendor invoices for 3-way match

Contact vendors for billing issues

Handle Inter/intra agency transfers

Process transactions for youth accounts including bi-weekly Work Incentive Pay Program(WIPP) time sheets verifying hours youth worked

Process, post negotiate to appropriate accounts and reconcile youth canteen as required

Process youth releases as required

Prepares and checks mail

Perform other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

Knowledge of:
-Federal and State Law, Statutes and Regulations pertinent to area of assignment
-Concepts, methods, techniques of general accounting and accounts payable/receivable process
-State of Arizona Accounting Manual (SAAM)
-Generally Accepted Accounting Practices (GAAP)
-Financial and Accounting Systems

-Reports creation and preparation
-Microsoft Office Suites and Google Suites

Selective Preference(s):

-Two years of professional level accounting experience
-Knowledge and experience in AZ360 accounting system
-Knowledge and experience in Arizona Procurement Portal (APP)
-Associates degree in Accounting or Bookkeeping is preferred

Any employee operating a motor vehicle on State business must possess and retain a current, valid class-appropriate driver’s license, complete all required training, and successfully pass all necessary driver’s license records checks. The license must be current, unexpired, and neither revoked or suspended. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records, and must complete all driver training. An employee who operates a personally owned vehicle on state business shall maintain the statutorily required liability insurance (see Arizona Administrative Code (A.A.C.) R2-10-207.010).
