This Accounting Specialist 2 is responsible for a variety of accounting and bookkeeping tasks, including revenue recognition, Payment issuance, cash management, and adherence to GAAP policies and the State of Arizona Accounting Manual (SAAM). The position focuses daily on processing payments, monitoring a shared accounting email, and assisting the CFO with various tasks, such as analyzing financial data, reviewing transaction documents, and preparing management reports. The position requires utilization of the Arizona Financial Information System (AZ360), Human Resource Information System (HRIS), Your Employee Services (YES) portal, QuickBooks, Microsoft Office, and Google Workspace applications.
This position may offer the ability to work remotely, within Arizona, based upon the department's business needs and continual meeting of expected performance measures.

• Ensures all payments and receipts are made timely and are allocated to the proper chart of accounts, codes, classes, and categories in the Arizona Financial Information System (AZ360) and QuickBooks; verifies the accuracy of all invoices prior to payment; research financial discrepancies and provide explanations necessary to complete monthly reconciliations; verifies receipt of goods and services; maintains invoice log and alerts CFO of any unexpected variance; creates and processes intra-agency electronic fund transfers; and monitors and responds to customer inquiries.
• Process payroll, deposits , and accounts receivable transactions as backup when needed.
• Supports the Arizona State Fair's box office; orders bank change for events and maintain supply inventory.
• Assists CFO in tracking appropriation; assists CFO with Chart of Accounts.
• Verifies Event entertainers W-9 forms are received, processed and approved.
• Assists staff in how to properly code Purchase orders.
• Performs periodic and as needed inventory of office equipment and supplies; and generates purchase orders for new equipment or arranges for surplus equipment to be removed from premises.
Knowledge of:
• Principles, methods and practices of fiscal and financial record keeping, including automated accounts payable/receivable and payroll systems;
• Basic and advanced math;
• QuickBooks or other digital accounting programs;
• Excel including pivot tables and formula development.
