Job Summary:

The Arizona Department of Administration (ADOA), Division Business and Finance (DBF) is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented individual for the position of Accounting Specialist 3. This critical role is responsible for managing all primary duties of the statewide garnishment desk, encompassing assignments mandated by Federal and State statutes directly related to payroll and garnishments. The successful candidate will be proficient in reconciling and resolving issues within the statewide payroll system, accurately performing data entry for various types of garnishments, and providing exceptional customer service regarding garnishment inquiries. Additionally, this position involves reconciling payroll accounts and requires strong working knowledge of the AZ360 Financial and HRM systems.

Job Duties:
  • Reviews, monitors, and manages a complex case load in order to facilitate the efficient, effective and accurate processing of creditor garnishments, tax levies, support orders, student loan wage assignments and bankruptcy orders within the timeline prescribes by State and Federal regulations including the entry into the Statewide payroll system garnishment application which is a subset of HRIS
  • Responds to routine requests regarding case status from State child support agencies, creditors, courts, loan vendors and State employees via mail, email and phone calls
  • Adjusts garnishment records on the Statewide payroll system as instructed by court orders and system adjustments to assure accurate and complete history on the applicable deductions
  • Recreates the mathematical calculations applicable to the non-exempt earnings statements to ensure accurate calculations by the Statewide payroll system
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

Knowledge of:

  • Federal and State Laws relating to garnishments; rules and regulations
  • Techniques of data processing established for the work system or agency
  • Google Suite and MS Office applications
  • AZ360 HRM garnishment data entry
  • State government policies and procedures
  • ARS 12-1598, ARS 25-500, and ARS 25-513 A

Selective Preference(s):
  • Two years responsible administrative experience equivalent to or above the Administrative Assistant III level in such fields as budget analysis,
    purchasing, accounting, data processing, or related administrative services work
  • Bachelor's degree in business or public administration from an accredited college or university may substitute for one year of the required experience
Pre-Employment Requirements:
  • High School diploma
  • Background and reference check, including a criminal records verification
