Supervises a staff of professional accounting personnel responsible for applying established accounting principles, concepts, and practices in the area of Revenue Accounting and Newborn Screening Billing and Collections. Responsible for monitoring all Revenue and Newborn Screening activities performed by the staff, and reviews/approves all documents related to cash/check/wire, federal draws and credit card deposits daily, as well as the monthly bank and grant fund reconciliation process.
- This position is required to come into the office at least 3 days a week or as needed. Supervises a staff of professional accounting personnel on all day-to-day operational activities associated with processing the agencies revenue transactions, as well as monitoring the Newborn Screening billing and collections process.
- Monitors employee performance, ensures accuracy of all data entered in AFIS, reviews and approves all revenue transactions. Responsible for ensuring all agency bank accounts and federal grants are reconciled monthly.
- Performs all supervisory responsibilities including but not limited to approving ETE's, A/L requests, S/L requests, completing MAP appraisals, and issuing disciplinary actions if needed.
- Cross trains and assists and provides backup support for staff to ensure adequate coverage during peek periods, as well as during employee absences.
- Provides communication to the programs as payments are received and deposited into the appropriate accounting structure. Also contacts the programs as necessary to receive input regarding unidentified payments, replacement payments for NSF checks, and reconciling deposit discrepancies.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the principles, concepts, practices, and methods of government accounting.
- Accounting principles and practices, and the reporting of financial data.
- Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Automated accounting systems and internal control structures.
- Federal grant regulations, AZ Revised Statutes, and agency policies and procedures.
- Performance Management (PM), and Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) and Lean methodologies.
- Considerable skill in analysis, interpretation, and communication of financial data.
- Effective time management skills.
- Effective communication skills, both oral and written.
- Intermediate or advanced skills in Excel, including macros and pivot tables.
- Work independently under general supervision of an Accounting Supervisor.
- Work in teams and collaborate effectively with co-workers.

Bachelor’s Degree in accounting or closely related field required and one year experience at the Accountant 4 level or equivalent. Master's Degree in Business Administration or Accounting Preferred. Knowledge of AFIS and the Arizona Procurement Portal (APP) is a plus.
