Arizona Department of Water Resources (ADWR) is seeking 2 paid interns to assist with investigating historic watering uses in various watersheds around Arizona and potentially assist with field investigations of these uses.
Intern duties: Assist full-time staff with investigations of water claims. Search databases, PDF copies of filings and provide reports. Create maps of water uses using Geographical Information Systems (GIS). Analyze aerial imagery and topographic maps to identify various types of water use claims. Scan and georeference aerial imagery. Assist with the field inspections and surveys of stockponds and irrigation areas. Other duties as assigned.
Some overnight travel may be required during weekdays. Some field work will be in remote locations. Strong commitment to collaboration, field safety, and teamwork.
Schedule: Hours will vary from 20 hours per week up to 40 hours per week.
Candidates must be enrolled in school and pursing a degree in Hydrology, Water Resource Management, Geology, Geography, or related field.
This position requires possession of and ability to retain a current, valid state-issued driver’s license appropriate to the assignment. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records and must complete any required driver training (see Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207.12.)
Learn how to evaluate historic documents and aerial imagery for various water uses, how drones can be used to evaluate water uses, and use GIS for real world problem solving.

Positions in this classification may participate in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS). Please note, enrollment eligibility will become effective after 27 weeks of employment.
