Job Summary:

The Department of Economic Security, Division of Aging and Adult Services, seeks an experienced and highly motivated individual to join our team as an APS Field Investigator 1 with Adult Protective Services. DAAS supports at-risk Arizonans to meet their basic needs and to live safely, with dignity and independence. Services and programs reach a diverse population of Arizonans from homeless youth to older adults.

You will learn to perform case investigation related activities involved in providing direct and indirect assistance to vulnerable, elderly, and incapacitated adults, 18 years of age or older, alleged to be abused, neglected, or exploited. You will experience human nature at its best and worst. You provide comfort and resources to those who need help. Job Duties:

• Performs professional entry-level case investigation tasks under direct supervision.
• Learns how to investigate, assess, evaluate, document, and provide referral of appropriate services for case investigations involving vulnerable and incapacitated adults, 18 years of age or older, alleged to be abused, neglected and/or exploited.
• Refers applicants and clients to appropriate community resources.
• Writes narratives for case records and interprets and applies program policies, procedures and objectives for clients and others.
• Makes home visits.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

Knowledge of:
• Customer service and interviewing techniques
• Sentence structure and composition to write clear, concise, and accurate notes and reports
• Statewide community resources
• General office procedures
Skill in:
• Oral and written communication
• Time management and organization
• Using computer software packages (e.g., Excel, Word, Google Suite, etc.) and accurately inputting information
Ability to:
• Learn, comprehend, and apply federal and state statutes, APS regulations, policies and procedures and HIPAA
• Learn and recognize physical behavioral indicators of neglect and abuse of adults with mental disabilities or seriously mentally ill and frail elderly
• Learn to use appropriate interventions for a variety of behavioral, developmental, and psychological symptoms

Selective Preference(s):

• Requires an Associate’s Degree; OR 1 year of experience as a Human Service Worker 2; OR 2 years para-professional general office/administrative experience; OR 1 year of experience providing professional case management/investigation services (Intake, Needs Assessment, Service Planning, and Monitoring and Evaluation).
• Flexibility in willingness to work longer shift hours or after-hours coverage, if necessary.

Pre-Employment Requirements:

• Candidates for this position shall be subject to a search of both the Child Protective Services Central Registry pursuant to A.R.S. 8-804 and the Adult Protective Services Registry pursuant to A.R.S. 46-459.
• A.R.S. 41-1968 Employee shall have a valid Level One fingerprint clearance card issued pursuant to Arizona Revised Statute 41-1758.07 in order to work with children and vulnerable adults, prior to the start of their employment.
• In-state travel is required. The position will require the possession of and ability to retain a current, valid state-issued driver’s license appropriate to the assignment. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records and must complete any driver training (see Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207.11). Individuals may be required to use their personal motor vehicle.
• Successfully complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify), applicable to all newly hired State employees.
• Successfully pass background and reference checks; employment is contingent upon completion of the above-mentioned process and the agency’s ability to reasonably accommodate any restrictions.
