ADEQ is seeking an engaged intern for our team who wants to develop beyond the classroom. Our interns shadow our subject-matter experts and work alongside them by: working in the field for water and air sampling, designing computer modeling software, evaluating data for patterns in establishing pollution parameters, presenting findings to senior leaders or drafting reports and notices. In short; everything we do – you will also do! Every day as our intern you will practice your classroom training while guided by our scientists and engineers.
Intern project – The Fall intern will conduct groundwater quality sampling and assist with management and analysis of water quality data sets to benefit outcomes of the Ambient Groundwater Monitoring Program. The intern will contribute to the Phoenix Active Management Area basin report and other deliverables as assigned and based on demand. Field work may be conducted in the Phoenix metro area and the Verde Valley.
You will bring the following to the internship:
• An eye for detail and diligence while working with large data sets
• Basic knowledge of field sampling procedures, documentation, and notetaking
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to perform in a team environment
• Ability to work independently and will little supervision
• Safety mind and professionalism while representing the Agency
You will gain the following from the internship:
• Get real world experience working at a State Agency level
• Well water quality sampling field experience
• Understanding of regulatory standards at a State and Federal Level
• Data collection, analysis, insights, and decision making
• Interfacing with the public and municipal water service providers
• Intern candidate must be in their junior or senior year of a Bachelor’s degree program or working towards a Masters or PhD
• Candidate must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher
• Candidate must attach college transcript with resume to apply
• Candidate must have the right to work in the US without requiring sponsorship
• Candidate must be at least 18 years old
