Job Summary:

In conjunction with the AMS Leadership Team (which includes the Director and Deputy Directors), this position will assist ADWR to fully and sustainably integrate AMS across our 170-person agency. The position will perform at a senior executive level, facilitate discussions, and coach and mentor agency leadership and staff toward a continuous improvement culture that fosters daily improvement involving all team members. This position will facilitate and lead high-value Lean projects throughout the agency personally, or by coaching program staff.

This position will work both on-site and remotely. 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):
  • Knowledge of Lean tools and principles: value stream mapping, kaizen, Plan/Do/Check/Act cycle, etc.
  • Experience leading kaizen events (facilitated problem solving and rapid implementation).
  • Strong communication and presentation skills. Must possess the ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, in individual and group settings.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with others positively and collaboratively. Leadership, influence and group facilitation skills.
  • Skill at project management, planning and achieving project objectives within stated timeframes while adhering to project constraints (scope, budget, procedural and technical requirements, and resource availability).
  • Experience with strategic planning, performance monitoring and measurement.
  • Knowledge of information technology project implementation (helpful but not required).
  • Excellent problem-solving and statistical analysis skills. Ability to drive results by using analytical methods to solve problems and improve operations.
  • Skill in organizing multiple projects and tasks simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in products such as Google and the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Visio).
  • Ability to coach, mentor and train others on AMS/Lean concepts, techniques, and methodologies.
  • Ability to prioritize work activities, set goals, be self-motivated.
  • Ability to supervise and motivate employees (2 direct reports: an IT project coordinator and an administrative assistant).
  • Must demonstrate the mastery of Lean tools and principles through a technical evaluation.
Selective Preference(s):

At least four years of direct experience performing Lean, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement practices and principles; strategic planning; and project management.

Experience implementing a quality management system in an organization.

Bachelor’s degree, preferably in business or public administration, engineering or another field that emphasizes process improvement.

Experience with Natural Resources related issues is a plus.

Positions in this classification participate in the Arizona State Retirement system (ASRS). Please note, enrollment eligibility will become effective after 27 weeks of employment. The current contribution rate is 12.41%
