Job Summary:

The Arizona Department of Agriculture is actively recruiting for two (2) Animal Health Inspectors for our Animal Services Division. The inspectors will be responsible for inspection at the Southern Border and inspections in their assigned areas. Work hours are subject to change during summer hours to coincide with shipping.

Under direction from the Supervising Livestock Officer, the successful candidates will enforce livestock and animal health surveillance at the Arizona/Mexico border pursuant to A.R.S. Title 3, Chapters 4, 11, 12 and 13 (approximately 125 statutory provisions) and A.A.C. Title 3, Chapter 2 (approximately 50 rules); perform administrative record keeping and prepare reports; maintain confidential working relationships with ASD managers, State Veterinarian and supervisors; and operate a state-owned vehicle, trailer, and other equipment.

This position is available for remote work on a full-time basis within Arizona (including virtual office arrangements).

Job Duties:

Duties to include but not limited to:
• Monitor the health and proper identification of animals moving within the State
• Monitor compliance with Beef Council fee
• Handle money and make weekly deposits
• Prepare and appropriately submit activity reports, departmental case reports, time sheets, travel claims and any other related reports in accordance with department regulations
• Respond to any Foreign Animal Disease or pest and/or emerging animal disease responses
• Other duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE OF:
• Federal/State laws, rules, regulations, policies, procedures and practices regarding livestock
• Basic animal nutrition, husbandry and health
• Report writing
• Effective investigation

• Basic computer and software programs
• Verbal and written communication
• Maintaining composure in stressful situations

ABILITY TO:
• Organize/prioritize work load
• Drive truck towing trailer
• Handle livestock safely
• Think analytically and solve routine problems
• Communicate with various internal and external customers
• Apply interpersonal skills to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, stakeholders and the general public
• Submit required paperwork in a timely manner

Retirement:

Positions in this classification participate in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS). Mandatory condition of Employment for all employees who meet the eligibility and membership criteria defined in statue. Current contribution rate is 11.98%. Enrollment eligibility will become effective after 27 weeks of employment.
