Job Summary:

The Arizona Attorney General's Office, Child and Family Protection Division, is seeking an Assistant Attorney General to work in its Civil and Criminal Litigation and Advice Section ("CLA"), which provides legal representation to the Arizona Department of Economic Security ("DES") and Department of Child Safety (“DCS”) on myriad subjects and issues.

Job Duties:

The position involves the following:
• Analyzing and researching complex and diverse legal issues pertaining to contracts, leases, intergovernmental agreements, and procurement matters and providing written and oral advice.
• Analyzing, applying, and advising the client with regard to various federal regulations and state/federal statutes and the Arizona Procurement Code.
• Representing the client in connection with administrative hearings and other legal proceedings pertaining to contracts disputes or arising out of the procurement process.
• A willingness to work collaboratively and in a team setting is critical.
• Analyzing, applying, and advising the client with regard to various federal regulations and state/federal statutes.
• Drafting pleadings, motions, memoranda, forms and other legal documents.
• A willingness to work collaboratively and in a team setting is critical.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

Knowledge needed:
• Knowledge and understanding of applicable state and federal statutes, case law and court rules.
• Knowledge of litigation and the administrative process.
• Knowledge of ethical standards applicable to lawyers and public employees.

Skills needed:
• Skill in working with the client to solve complex/diverse challenges.
• Skill in analyzing, interpreting and applying myriad federal regulations and state/federal statutes.
• Skill in persuasive oral and written communication pertaining to case presentation through various stages of representation, including litigation through trial or the administrative process (and appeal if required).
• Skill in working with co-workers to solve problems.
• Skill in prioritizing multiple demands.

Abilities needed:
• Ability to identify/analyze complex legal issues and communicate about the same with the client.
• Ability to effectively utilize skills of subordinate staff.
• Ability to display courteous and professional behavior.
• Ability to exercise sound judgment in making strategic decisions in cases and in providing legal advice to the client.

Selective Preference(s):

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of fifteen (15) years of legal experience, including significant experience advising on contracts and procurement matters. An understanding of the Arizona Procurement Code is a plus. Excellent writing and communication skills are required. Applicants must also have the ability to work collaboratively with others.

Pre-Employment Requirements:

• Travel is required for this position. A valid Arizona Driver’s License is required, along with consent to have your driving record run periodically.
• Admission to, and good standing with, the Arizona State Bar is required (include on resume the date(s) of admission in Arizona and any other states). Candidate must have an active Arizona State Bar license.
• Attorney applicants are required to submit a writing sample with their resume/application profile.
The writing sample should contain an analysis of some substantive legal issue and provide insight concerning your ability to think and to explain and advocate for a particular position.
