Under general direction Park Manager, oversee and supervise daily operations of Rockin’ River Ranch State Park. Assist Park Manager with park administration, including instructing, training and counseling subordinate staff, while performing a variety of park tasks as well as problem solving and park decision making. Ensures public safety by enforcing park rules and regulations. Assists in maintenance, landscaping, interpretation, janitorial, and customer service duties.
Must be able to work weekends and holidays.
Park Operation Management:
Responsible for the daily administration and operation of Rockin’ River Ranch State Park. Assists the Park Manager in all aspects of oversight and operations of customer service, interpretive planning, overseeing and participating in park development, operating budget, and administrative tasks. Communicates on a regular basis with the Park Manager on operational and personnel issues. Works independently and in group settings to identify and address needs of the park.
Maintenance, Landscaping, and Safety:
Performs maintenance, landscaping, and janitorial tasks on buildings and grounds. Supervises staff on same tasks. Conducts regular grounds and facility inspections to establish and prioritize maintenance projects and inspect for safety issues; Assists with supply inventory and maintenance for equipment. Keep parks operating safely and within the law including protection of environmental, cultural and natural resources. Establish maintenance standards and expectations for repairs, on-going/preventative maintenance, and projects necessary to meet needs of park resources, visitors and staff. Strategic thinking for the organization to maximize the mission outcome. Ensures visual management tools are being properly used by staff.
Leadership and Staff Development:
Lead direct reports to problem solve, build strong team working relationships, and complete park tasks and goals. Develops and mentors staff by using best management practices and setting leadership examples through positive workplace culture initiatives. Assist Park Manager with monitoring and coordinating employee work schedules, hiring, and training staff. Make sure staff adheres to ADOA and ASPT guidelines. Creates and monitors employee schedules, timecards and approves leave requests. Evaluates employees through a performance management process and maintains standards of expectations, recognition, accountability, and disciplinary action when necessary. Seeks training for employees that improve the chances for betterment and promotion. Works with the Park Manager and Human Resources to respond to employee issues, workplace concerns. Assist and perform human resource related duties to include recruitment, hiring, training and developing staff.
Customer Service, Interpretation, and Communication:
Provide accurate interpretation to the public and other stakeholders at the parks and outreach events, using best customer service practices. Collaborate, foster and maintain a positive relationship with visitors, guests, stakeholders and end users on behalf of the park. Communicate effectively with visitors and staff or diverse backgrounds, while maintaining a courteous and professional manner. Operate visitor center and entrance station, greeting visitors, selling park passes and park store items. Oversee groups and individuals for service projects.
Administration and Budget Management & Procurement:
Completes daily administrative tasks such as money handling, deposits, revenue reports, incident reports, and daily logs. Assist Park Manager in overseeing parks operating, donation, and other related budgets. Adhere to procurement, accounting, and record keeping standards, policies, reports, and practices. Directly responsible for expenditures and accountability for park purchases.

Good working knowledge of park operational needs, quality standards, visitor safety and employee safety standards. Current practices and methods in the protection of resources in a park. Budgetary and financial management. Interpretation techniques/philosophy. State purchasing guidelines and policies. Grounds keeping and janitorial. Basic vehicle repair. Agency vision, mission, goals, objectives and philosophy. Applicable federal, state and agency laws, statutes, policies and procedures. Personnel management practices. Public Speaking. CPR & First Aid. Building repair and construction concepts.
Skill in:
Management of a interpretative park including park concessionaires. Business management. Personnel management and supervisory techniques. Assigning work assignments and priorities. Facility and landscape maintenance. In addressing visitor complaints, emergency situations and other stressful work issues while maintaining a courteous and professional demeanor. Problem solving. Verbal and written communication. Speaking to small and large groups of people. Use of electronic office equipment (PC's, cash registers, digital camera, software/operating systems, etc.) Partnerships with external groups/agencies.
Ability to:
Effectively and efficiently run the park. Work independently with limited supervision or work collaboratively in a group setting. Speak in public. Travel overnight. Work holidays, nights, evenings, days and weekends. Communicate effectively with employees and the public. Maintain park facilities and equipment. Write reports and letters. Create and track park budget. Operate a vehicle or radio. Attend overnight meetings or trainings. Identify and correct safety hazards. Effectively communicate via cell phone and other electronic means.
Bachelor's degree in Parks and Recreation Management; a related field and/or 3 years experience in park management, managing staff, budget, general knowledge of park operations is preferred.
First Aid and CPR certifications
Class D Motor Vehicle Drivers License
If required; ability to obtain certification of an Emergency Medical Technician and/or Waste/Water Management.
