The associate methodologist is responsible for providing technical support to the Office’s audit teams in the areas of research design, data analysis, sampling methods, and statistical analysis techniques as they conduct performance audits of State agencies and school districts. The associate methodologist will review relevant audit documentation to ensure that audit teams’ use of methods is appropriate and any conclusions are valid and will be responsible for ensuring that auditors receive adequate guidance, training, and supervision while conducting methodological work. The associate methodologist may also be tasked with performing audit work, based on Office needs, and as assigned by Office management.

  • An expert in quantitative social science who wants to use their research and data analysis skills to make a positive impact on government performance in an engagement-focused, performance-oriented culture.
  • A skilled methodologist that can assist audit teams in research design, methods development and application, sampling and statistical analysis techniques, and can confidently explain and defend the use of applied methods.
  • An engaging communicator who can effectively guide audit teams to make the most effective use of research methods and excels at translating data into meaningful stories that compel team members and audit clients to act.
  • A collaborative partner who has a natural ability to create genuine, productive working relationships with internal stakeholders and audited entities.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, employees currently work a hybrid in-person/telecommuting schedule. This schedule is subject to change. Additionally, the Office has implemented safety guidelines and protocols for our team members to follow to help ensure their and agency personnel’s safety.

Job Duties:
  • Providing technical support to audit teams in the areas of research design, data analysis, sampling methods, and statistical analysis techniques.
  • Interpreting the results of statistical tests and analysis and other technical documentation.
  • Advising audit teams in the use of research and sampling methods and assisting teams in drawing samples for performance audits.
    Researching standards, best practices, laws and regulations, and other applicable resources.
  • Providing training in the areas of research methods, sampling methods, statistical analysis techniques, and other areas of expertise.
  • Reviewing audit reports to ensure conclusions drawn from methodological work are appropriate and to provide feedback as needed to help audit teams develop clear, concise, well-organized, appropriately detailed, and supported audit findings and clear recommendations.
  • Supporting teams in conducting literature reviews.
  • Conducting and communicating progress on audit work to Office and audit team management, as necessary.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A master's degree in the social sciences with a quantitative focus, such as Political Science, Public Administration, or Public Policy. A Ph.D. is preferred.
