POSTING DETIALS:

- Audit interns usually join our team for 20 or more weeks, working 20-29 hours each week.

- You will help perform professional accounting and audit work.

- Start date - As soon as you’re ready we can accommodate your class schedule so that you may work during business hours.

-You will need to upload a copy of your resume, transcripts and cover letter explaining how your skills are a good fit for this position, must have a current GPA standing of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.

- If you are currently working toward an undergraduate degree the salary is $14/hr. If you have graduated and earned a bachelor's degree and/or working on a post grad degree the salary is $18/hr.

 

JOB SUMMARY:

We are seeking a talented and engaged intern who is working toward their undergraduate degree and wants to develop beyond the classroom!

This Intern position will be assigned to our Internal Audit group within the ADHS Business Financial Services unit and works under general supervision of the Chief Audit Administrator, Audit Supervisor and/or Internal Audit Staff.

 You will perform professional accounting and audit work requiring the practical application of accounting and auditing principles, theories, concepts, practices and policy reference materials. You will also work on basic accounting and/or audit assignments including collaborating with audit staff members on identifying audit findings in order to expand practical experience and continue the development of professional judgment in analyzing internal controls.

 You will assist the Internal Audit Staff in developing draft procedures and reports associated with accounting and audit work. Lastly, you'll be responsible for reviewing the Contractor Expenditure report (CER) and COVID-19 invoice expenditures for compliance with federal grant and/or emergency order requirements prior to ADHS issuing payment to contractors.

YOU WILL BRING THE FOLLOWING TO THE INTERNSHIP: 

- Working towards a BS degree in accounting, finance or closely related field.

- Understanding of basic accounting principles. 

- Working knowledge of Windows, working in multiple spreadsheets, Google suite and the ability to write basic reports. 

- Strong interest in public service and improving state government.

- Strong research abilities as well as excellent oral and written communication skills.

- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.

- Ability to synthesize information and reach conclusions.

- Interpersonal skills and ability to interact with coworkers and auditees professionally and ethically.

- Willingness to take initiative.

- Positive and constructive attitude.

- Ability to professionally accept and respond to feedback.

YOU WILL GAIN THE FOLLOWING FROM THIS INTERNSHIP:

- Hands-on experience in Reviews of Contractor Expenditure reports (CER) and COVID-19 invoices for expense compliance with federal grant and/or emergency order requirements. 

 - The opportunity to manage the flow of properly supported CERs / invoices to responsible management for final payment approval including communicating with Internal Audit Staff on resolving identified errors with agency management to ensure payment policy compliance.

Accounting and/or audit assignments using analysis of standard internal control structures and policy reference materials.

 - Collaboration with the Audit Supervisor and Internal Audit Staff in developing draft procedures and reports associated with the accounting and audit work performed.

 - Assist the Chief Audit Administrator, Audit Supervisor and Internal Audit Staff in other accounting/audit areas during peak activity periods and during absences of other audit staff members. 

- You will be coached and mentored by the Chief Audit Administrator, Audit Supervisor and/or Internal Audit Staff and others on the team by collaborating with them on group projects.

SELECTIVE PREFERENCES:

Working towards a BS degree in accounting, finance or closely related field.
