Job Summary:

The Department of Economic Security, Division of Technology Services (DTS), is seeking an experienced and highly motivated individual to join our team as an Azure SQL Database Administrator.

The Database Administrator (DBA) is responsible for the overall management and maintenance of information databases used to operate IT applications and systems. The DBA partners with application teams and infrastructure operations to ensure that database performance is not hindered and performance standards adhere to service level agreements set with the enterprise.

Job Duties:

● Partners with development teams to design data management and governance protocols, manages the information lifecycle, and design infrastructure and data integration controls.
● Proactively solves problems. Installs, monitors, and directs proactive and reactive measures to ensure the availability, integrity, confidentiality, and reliability of database systems.
● Meets performance standards in accordance with service level agreements set by the company.
● Identifies data sources, constructs data decomposition diagrams, provides data flow diagrams and documents the process. Implement and review appropriate security guidelines/mechanisms.
● Understands business strategy and cascades business intelligence needs to the database level.
● Analyzes and reports the performance of database operations against the key database performance metrics. Develops and test database migration procedures and performs database migrations.
● Designs, configures, implements, and administers all databases for the respective parties involved.
● Develops database administration tools/utilities/operation procedures.
● Builds and manages the database disaster recovery and backup plan. Performs database maintenance functions.
● Moves, rebuilds, or changes database objects as required in production.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

● Knowledge in physical data models, technical architecture, system interfaces, etc.
● Knowledge in SQL with an emphasis on the Azure Platform.
● Knowledge in implementing Azure SQL Database for operational relational database jobs in Azure-based data-to-analytics pipelines and data-centric solutions.
● Knowledge in Azure SQL Database is a mature and powerful dbPaaS offering that can meet a wide range of relational database workload scenarios.
● Knowledge in determining whether Azure SQL Database’s few missing feature innovations are necessary to satisfy operational database needs and build mitigation strategies for those missing features into their overall solution architectures, if required.

● Skills in relational databases (e.g. Oracle, SQL Server, MS Access)

● Ability to correlate IT industry standard best practices to regularly executed solutions within the Division of Technology Services (DTS) and S&P.
● Ability to organize, plan and coordinate activities that are beneficial for all DES administrations.
● Ability to install and support relational database management systems
● (RDMS).
● Ability to find root causes of problems and quickly determines efficient solutions.
● Ability to assist developers in troubleshooting the cause of SQL and/or application failures.
● Ability to maintain database availability that will meet required Service Level Agreements.
● Ability to design and implement a high-availability strategy.
● Ability to maintain and enforce departmental data standards.
● Ability to maintain test regions, including promotion or retrofitting changes to/from production.
● Ability to correctly use DBA ease-of-use tools to rapidly migrate and verify changes.

Pre-Employment Requirements:

● Associate degree plus 1 – 3 years of experience in database administration (or equivalent experience).
● Successfully complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify), applicable to all
newly hired State employees.
● Successfully pass background and reference checks; employment is contingent upon completion of the
above-mentioned process and the agency’s ability to reasonably accommodate any restrictions.
● ARS 41-1969 Each employee or contractor of the department of economic security who is employed in an information technology position shall have a valid fingerprint clearance card issued pursuant to section ARS 41-1758.07.
● Travel may be required for State business. Employees who drive on state business must complete any required driver training (see Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207.12.) AND have an acceptable driving record for the last 39 months including no DUI, suspension or revocations and less than 8 points on your license. If an Out of State Driver License was held within the last 39 months, a copy of your MVR (Motor Vehicle Record) is required prior to driving for State Business. Employees may be required to use their own transportation as well as maintaining valid motor vehicle insurance and current Arizona vehicle registration; however, mileage will be reimbursed.

Retirement:
