Job Summary:

The Arizona State Veteran Home – Phoenix is looking for a Building Maintenance Technician to perform a variety of maintenance and repair tasks. You will be responsible for assessing both the internal and external environment on a daily basis to identify repairs, maintenance or preventative maintenance to ensure compliance with all applicable federal and state regulations, facility policies and procedures.

Job Duties:

As a Building Maintenance Tech you will:

  • Inspect all areas on a regular basis to determine maintenance and repair needs
  • Collect and respond to work requests
  • Maintain and repair a variety of equipment to include kitchen equipment, plumbing and electrical
  • Install and repair locks; cuts keys, as needed
  • Assist with the maintenance of state vehicles
  • Maintain records of materials used and time expended
  • Lead work activities of subordinate level Building Maintenance staff and/or outside vendors
  • Follow department policies and procedures, as applicable to the assigned job responsibility
  • Adhere to safety codes/standards
  • Comply with all local, state and federal rules and regulations
  • Complete special projects, as assigned
  • Attend meetings and in-service training, as assigned
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

Knowledge of:

  • Rules, regulations, policies and procedures of section and work unit
  • Methods and practices applied in generalized preventive maintenance, repair, remodeling and construction
  • Tools, equipment and materials used in maintenance environment
  • Safety practices and building codes
  • Methods and techniques used in lifting, moving, stacking, storing and protecting tools, equipment and materials

Skill in:

  • Verbal and written communication skills
  • Customer service skills
  • Preventive maintenance and general repairs
  • Properly using and inspecting tools, equipment and materials
  • Complying with state and local codes
  • Coordinating with contracted vendors
  • Inspecting, determining repairs and replacements
  • Scheduling and prioritizing work
  • Determining needs and ordering supplies

Ability to:

  • Interact positively and professionally with staff, residents and vendors
  • Safely operation a State vehicle while transporting passengers
Selective Preference(s):

Experience with drywall, painting, basic electrical, plumbing and carpentry

Pre-Employment Requirements:
  • Current Negative TB skin test (Mantoux skin test) within the last twelve months or a written statement from a physician, physician’s assistant or a registered nurse practitioner indicating freedom from Tuberculosis, if in the past has had a positive skin test or Tuberculosis
  • Must be able to obtain and retain a fingerprint clearance card issued by the Arizona Department of Public Safety
  • This position requires the ability to drive on State business. Requires possession of and ability to retain a current, valid state-issued driver's license appropriate to the assignment. Employees who drive on State business are subject to driver's license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records and must complete any required driver training (see A.AC. R2-10-207.11).
