Building Security/Network Administration – Specialist VI

This position is responsible for installation and service of commercial security systems to include, but not limited to software installation and programming, access control, and building intrusion detection.  Configures and programs interfaces with other building software systems. Interact with customers, vendors and other contractors on-site to properly coordinate successful installations. Also, involvement in network and VOIP related administration and other network related functions.

Essential functions include:

  • Provides all problem identification and solution on all security workstations, consoles, RTU boards, lighting, and camera systems.
  • Initiates and coordinates all security field equipment installations.
  • Ensures proper maintenance of all components of the building access control system, card readers, camera systems, intrusion detection alarms and motion detectors managed by the building security system.
  • Understands schematics of security circuits and analyzes electronic systems malfunctions for performance and tests equipment readings and determines appropriate repairs.
  • Troubleshoots all building security software/hardware issues. Escalates for vendor support as required. Coordinates all escalated vendor repairs with Facilities and Security management teams.
  • Direct internal staff members and/or coordinate and monitor service contractors, in the repair, modification or replacement of major/minor components of a highly sophisticated electronic system.
  • Performs periodic inspections of all security control panels and building security components, within the Court building, insuring their proper performance and reliability.
  • Maintains all building security server and workstation operations. Builds and deploys new servers and monitoring workstations as required.
  • Responsible for estimating, costing and procurement of materials in support of a commercial security system.
  • Devises work schedules and preventative maintenance schedules.
  • Responsible for VOIP desktop and system support as well as other limited network functions.
  • Responsible for VoIP (over 700 devices) troubleshooting and configuration, including VoIP CWMS training and configuration.
  • Responsible for VPN troubleshooting with user access.

This position may be eligible for a hybrid-telework schedule once the employee has completed three (3) months of employment and has sufficiently proved their ability to perform assigned tasks.

This position requires a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a relevant field and experience in installing, programming and maintaining electronic security and commercial access control systems or related experience within the electronics industry, with mechanical abilities in building management.   Additional experience may substitute for education. This position also requires working knowledge, and hands on experience, with P.C. based hardware, Microsoft Operating Systems, TCP/IP Networking and misc. P.C. based software required to operate a complex security system. Strong technical background in security systems, access control and electronic technology. Knowledge of methods and practices of preventive maintenance, repair, modification and replacement of electronic components within a sophisticated electronic system. In addition, this position requires the ability to maintain safety standards in working with electrical connections and components. The ability to sketch circuits to create ideas for design of services using Visio, and work after hours and cover on-call on a rotational basis.

The preferred candidates will have a minimum of five years, hands on, work experience with commercial access control, security system programming and installations. RS2 commercial grade security software security installation, electrical background and knowledge of electrical materials, and an understanding of LAN systems as part of an overall security installation.
