Job Summary:

The Department of Gaming is looking for an individual who will be able to work independently and as part of a team. Our Boxing/MMA Program Specialist assists staff at Boxing and MMA weigh-ins and events. Process and issue licenses to boxers, MMA combatant’s, corner men, and others at the weigh-ins and events. This includes accepting and processing all payments, taking photographs of applicants uploading them into a database, and entering all license information into said database. Position requires travel to events, which requires some evening events, and overnight stays. Work week is normally Monday through Friday, but may vary if Boxing and/or Mixed Martial Arts events are scheduled, approximately 60% of the time, this position would need to work late-nights and weekends. Bilingual in Spanish REQUIRED.

Job Duties:
  • Respond to inquiries via telephone, email and in person from the public and stakeholders regarding the licensing process for a Boxers and Mixed Martial Arts combatant’s, promoters, trainers, managers, seconds and matchmakers.
  • Review and process all Boxing & MMA deposits; this includes calculating and processing tax levies, as established.
  • Work closely with promoters to ensure all combatants’ are cleared to compete by collecting physical, eye, and blood work examinations.
  • Attend all Boxing/Mixed Martial Arts events and collect/review applications and issue licenses statewide.
  • Prepares monthly Boxing/MMA Commission meeting agendas and generates informational packets for Commission review.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

Knowledge of:

  • Microsoft and G-Suite Software.
  • Database entry.
  • Cash handling.
  • Filing and basic accounting functions.

Skill in:

  • Organization and customer service.
  • Professional telephone etiquette.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Complete assignments in a timely manner.

Ability to:

  • Maintain confidential files and records.
  • Work in a stressful environment.
  • Establish and maintain effective work relationships.
  • Be professional.
  • Work late nights and weekends for Boxing & MMA Events
  • Travel – which may include overnight stays.
Selective Preference(s):
  • Associates Degree
  • Bilingual and Biliterate in Spanish REQUIRED (There will be a Spanish proficiency exercise).
  • Knowledge of Boxing/MMA rules and regulations, preferred.
  • Knowledge of First Aid, a plus.
  • Proficient Computer skills – Microsoft and G-Suite software
Pre-Employment Requirements:

Candidates for this position will be required to submit to a criminal history investigation. Requires possession of and ability to retain a current, valid state-issued driver’s license appropriate to the assignment. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records and must complete any required driver training (see Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207.12.)
