The Arizona State Hospital (ASH) provides inpatient psychiatric care to persons with serious mental illness who need long-term behavioral health care. ASH promotes hope and wellness for our patients and creates opportunities to participate in planning, delivering and evaluating services that assist with recovery. Treatment is individualized with goals that focus on education about an illness, instilling hope and improving one's overall quality of life. The Arizona State Hospital has a wide range of positions available, from our direct care staff, Nurses and Behavioral Health Technicians to Social Workers, Rehabilitation Specialist and Security to name a few. The Arizona State Hospital also offers 12 hour shifts for our Direct Care staff as well as some alternative work schedules, flexible hours for non-direct care staff. Job Summary:
This position is eligible for a $5,000 hiring incentive.

The position serves as the shift supervisor for assigned staff and provides direct patient care to assigned psychiatric patients. Plans, directs, coordinates, documents, and evaluates nursing care on assigned unit. Administers medications and treatments per policy, assuring adherence to quality nursing standards. Assigns, supervises and evaluates performance of subordinate staff. Prepares reports and staff schedules.

Job Duties:

– Assigns, supervises, and directs care provided by subordinate nursing personnel;
– Completes performance evaluations;
– Prepares work schedules; reviews and approves leave;
– Provides input into disciplinary actions; orients and mentors new staff
– Provides direct psychiatric and medical care to psychiatric patients,
– Facilitates group and individual leisure and educational activities;
– Administers medications and treatments, provides patient medication education;
– Documents in health records, including assessments, seclusion and restraint forms;
– Completes incident reports and reviews incident reports as assigned;
– Ensures adherence to regulatory agency rules/regulations/standards and to hospital policies; and procedures


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

Knowledge of:
− Psychiatric and medical nursing application.
− Unit, hospital, and departmental policies and procedures.
− Pharmacology.
− Unit management and principles of supervision.
− Interpersonal relationships and communication.
− Standards of nursing care.
− Medication administration, nursing assessments and documentation.
− Patient rights.
− Infection prevention.
− Nonviolent crisis intervention.
− Seclusion and restraint policies and documentation.
− Performance Management (PM), and Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) and Lean methodologies
Skill in:
− Communication, written and verbal.

Ability to:
- Communicate both written and verbally with patients, subordinates, and colleagues.

Selective Preference(s):

The ideal candidate will have a:

- A Bachelor's degree in nursing or health-related field, or current enrollment in a BSN program with scheduled completion within 18 months of hire.

-Three (3) years as an RN with at least 1 year in a psychiatric setting.

Must have:
- Must possess a license in good standing as Registered Nurse in the state of Arizona.
- A State Hospital employee must be able to obtain a valid Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card pursuant to A.R.S. § 41-1758.07.

Critical Services Premium Pay Stipend 
This position may be eligible to receive a temporary stipend of 10% in addition to base pay beginning in December 2021.  If eligible, the temporary stipend amount will be calculated using the employee's base rate of pay and will be reflected in each paycheck.  It is anticipated that this temporary stipend will be available through June 30, 2022.

Retirement:

To help you build a financially secure future, the State makes monthly contributions to finance your retirement benefit. The State will make a contribution to the ASRS in an amount equal to your contribution. In other words, you and the State will each pay 50% of the total cost of the benefit. New State employees have a 27 week wait period for contributions to begin.
