The Arizona State Hospital (ASH) provides inpatient psychiatric care to persons with serious mental illness who need long-term behavioral health care. ASH promotes hope and wellness for our patients and creates opportunities to participate in planning, delivering and evaluating services that assist with recovery. Treatment is individualized with goals that focus on education about an illness, instilling hope and improving one's overall quality of life. The Arizona State Hospital has a wide range of positions available, from our direct care staff, Nurses and Behavioral Health Technicians to Social Workers, Rehabilitation Specialist and Security to name a few. The Arizona State Hospital also offers 12 hour shifts for our Direct Care staff as well as some alternative work schedules, flexible hours for non-direct care staff. Job Summary:

The Pool PN2 is a part-time role and shall provide direct psychiatric and medical care to patients of the Arizona State Hospital and may be required to work any day of the week to meet the needs of the hospital and patients.

  • 12 hour shift:  maximum of 32 per pay period

We offer shift and weekend differentials.
Shift times are:  6:00 a.m. – 6:30 p.m. Day Shift
                           6:00 p.m. – 6:30 a.m. Night Shift

Job Duties:

– Providing professional and skilled nursing care for patients in collaboration the physician and other disciplines

– Performing all aspects of patient care including continuous improvement of the patient’s experience, clinical outcomes, and promoting a healthy work environment

– Providing direct psychiatric and medical nursing care to patients; attending group activities, assisting patients with activities of daily living; and observing of behavior and physical status

– Transcribing doctor’s orders, medication and chart review, administering medication and treatments, counting accountable medication, assisting doctor in sick call with nursing input

– Documenting in patient records, completing nursing assessments, summaries and other documentation as needed

-Other duties as assigned related to the position.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

− Knowledge of psychiatric nursing and general principles of medical, adolescent, geriatric, and forensic nursing; the nursing process in the development of patient care plans; psychiatric rehabilitation; pharmacology; infection control; effective communication techniques, both verbal and written; hospital policies and procedures; patient rights and responsibilities; and basic computer programs and software related to the health record

− Skills and abilities assessment of patients' physical and mental status; patients' needs; communicating with patients, nursing staff, members of the treatment team and other departments; therapeutic interventions; providing education to patients and staff; documenting observations and interventions; assessment of staff skill mix to meet patient needs and acuity; clinical supervision of paraprofessional nursing staff; administer medications in a safe manner; enter patient information regarding assessment, observation, progress notes, medications, etc. into the electronic health record; maintain a safe and therapeutic environment; facilitating psychiatric rehabilitation and other educational groups; and provide guidance/ mentor-ship/clinical leadership for paraprofessional nursing staff

Selective Preference(s):

– The preferred candidate will have experience with psychiatric patients

Pre-Employment Requirements:

- Must have and maintain a current Arizona RN license.

- A State Hospital employee must be able to obtain a valid Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card pursuant to A.R.S. 41-1758.07.

- Must be able to obtain and maintain CPR and NVCI certifications

- Driving is required for State Business.

- Employees who drive on state business require possession of and the ability to retain a current, valid state-issued driver’s license appropriate to the assignment. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license checks, must maintain acceptable driving records and must complete any driver training (See Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207.11).

Benefits:

- If employee does not work 30 hours in a pay period the employee will have the options to pay both the employee and employer portion of any benefit premiums for that pay period should they elect benefits.
- In accordance with State Personnel Rules (R2-5A-307), a pool employee may not work more than 1,500 hours in a calendar year.
- Employee will not accrue paid time off (annual or sick leave) while working pool.

Retirement:

Employees who work less than 20 hours per week for more than 20 weeks do not meet the eligibility requirement to contribute to the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS)
