Job Summary:

The Department of Economic Security, Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD) is seeking an experienced and highly motivated individual to join our team as a Case Manager Unit Supervisor – Behavioral Health Unit. This position serves persons with developmental disabilities (DD) and Mental Illness (MI) by supporting them and their families to lead the healthiest, most-sufficient and productive lives within their capabilities.

This position supervises staff that serves individuals with developmental disabilities (DD) and mental Illness (MI) by supporting them and their families to lead the healthiest, most self-sufficient, productive lives within their capabilities. This position supervises a unit of support coordinators within the Human Services Series. Responsible for all related personnel tasks including hiring, counseling, disciplinary actions, and completing performance reviews; ensures staff meet all of the legal requirements of the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System (AHCCCS) long-term care, targeted case load requirements and the Division policies and procedures.

Accountable for the:

  • Supervision of service coordinators (support coordinators) in a Behavioral Health Unit
  • Assigning case loads and scheduling work assignments
  • Audit of case loads based on established guidelines
  • Eligibility determination for the Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD)
  • Development of the Individual Service Plan (ISP)
  • Coordination of identified supports and services of greater complexity for members and families
Job Duties:
  • Supervises and directs work activities of subordinate staff; provides necessary training; provides technical advice and assistance to staff regarding development, implementation, or monitoring of member Individual Support Plans (ISP); completes performance evaluations.
  • Reviews cases assigned to work unit; assesses needs and assigns case to staff members; reviews Individual Support Plan developed by Support Coordinator to ensure member needs are met; ensures assignment area completed within established time lines in compliance with quality standards.
  • Attends and facilitates meetings, including but not limited to staff meetings, district supervisory meetings, meetings with representatives of other governmental and community organizations, and district and statewide workgroups.
  • Meets with subordinate staff to assist with identifying necessary changes and modifications to Individual Support Plans.
  • Develops support plans for the most difficult and complex cases assigned to the work unit; interviews and counsels members and family members; makes modifications to the Individual plan as necessary.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of case management, methodology, procedures and techniques in development of Individual or Family Support Plans, Individual Service Plans, or Person Centered Plans for people with developmental disabilities
  • Knowledge of social, intellectual, and behavioral problems of people with developmental disabilities
  • Knowledge of principles of applied behavioral interventions
  • Knowledge of Federal and State Statutes, agency policies and procedures relating to the care and treatment of persons with developmental disabilities
  • Skilled in counseling (as used in providing advice and assistance) and interacting with members and family members
  • Skilled in conducting needs assessments
  • Skilled in problem identification and resolution
  • Skilled in oral and written communication
  • Ability to assess needs and determine suitability of Individual Family Support Plans/Individual Service Plans, teaching, and coaching/training
  • Ability to analyze issues and develop positive solutions
  • Ability to supervise a unit of professional staff
  • Ability to work independently and within diverse work teams
Selective Preference(s):
  • The ideal candidate will possess 3 years experience as a lead case manager in a Support coordination unit OR 2 years of supervisory/manager experience.
Pre-Employment Requirements:
  • Case Manager Supervisor must be an Arizona licensed registered nurse in good standing OR possess a degree in social work with a minimum of three (3) years case management experience OR possess a bachelor's degree in psychology, special education, or counseling, with a minimum of three (3) years’ of case management experience AND three (3) years of management experience.
  • In-state travel is required. This position requires possession of and ability to retain a current, valid state-issued driver’s license appropriate to the assignment. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records and must complete any required driver training (see Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207.12.). Employees may be required to use their own transportation as well as maintaining valid motor vehicle insurance and current Arizona vehicle registration; however, mileage will be reimbursed.
  • Employee shall have a valid Level One fingerprint clearance card issued pursuant to Arizona Revised Statute 41-2758.07 in order to work with children and vulnerable adults.
  • Candidates for this position shall be subject to a search of both the Child Protective Services Central Registry pursuant to A.R.S. 8-804 and the Adult Protective Services Registry pursuant to A.R.S. 46-459.
  • Successfully complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify), applicable to all newly hired state employees
  • Successfully pass background and reference check; employment is contingent upon completion of the above-mentioned process and the Agency’s ability to reasonably accommodate any restrictions
