Job Summary:

The Arizona Department of Administration (ADOA), within the Arizona Strategic Enterprise Technology (ASET) Division, is seeking a skilled professional for the role of Cloud Operations Engineer. The Cloud Operations Engineer serves as the technical lead responsible for the daily support and management of the infrastructure and cloud platforms hosted by the Arizona Strategic Enterprise Technology Cloud Operations team. This pivotal role requires establishing and maintaining strong working relationships with both internal and external Statewide technical teams, as well as vendors. These collaborative partnerships are essential for managing critical services, including data center infrastructure, telecommunications, enterprise network connectivity, cloud management, service management operations, and information security. The successful candidate will drive the operational excellence and stability of Arizona's core technological environment.

Job Duties:
  • Provide expert day-to-day operational support and maintenance for multi-cloud IaaS and PaaS infrastructures hosted across Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud Platforms (GCP)
  • Design, build, and manage a Statewide Cloud Management Platform to centralize operations and governance
  • Implement comprehensive monitoring and performance management for all infrastructure components, including on-premise virtualization environments (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V) and multi-cloud services (AWS, Azure, GCP)
  • Lead the planning, design, and development of cloud-native applications through advanced orchestration and automation of multi-cloud platforms
  • Architect and implement secure, scalable web services in the cloud, including the configuration of geographically redundant and highly available services
  • Collaborate closely with the engineering team to research, evaluate, and deploy the most optimal, cost-effective, and scalable cloud-based solutions for the organization
  • Maintain and enhance Infrastructure as Code (IaC) scripts and RESTful APIs to ensure reliable, repeatable, and automated management of the multi-cloud infrastructure and service integrations
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

Knowledge of:

  • Strong cloud technology concepts
  • Networking concepts (e.g., DNS, TCP/IP, and firewalls)
  • Implementing and controlling the flow of data, to and from a service provider
  • Networking, Load Balancing, DNS, Virtualization (Hyper-V, VMWare), performance monitoring, and capacity planning
  • Microsoft Active Directory, Cloud Identity, and Cloud Services

Skills in:

  • Strong verbal and written communication
  • Using cloud orchestration tools
  • Developing, running, and maintaining scripts (PowerShell, CLI, JSON, Python, Bash) with 2-3 years of experience
  • ITIL Services best practices
  • Managing Cloud Solutions
  • Cloud Identity Management

Ability to:

  • See and solve issues before they escalate into problems
  • Work with virtualization technologies
  • Estimate usage costs and identify operational cost control mechanisms
  • Translate architectural requirements
  • Deploy, manage, and operate scalable, highly available, and fault-tolerant systems
  • Solid understanding and experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) implementations
Selective Preference(s):
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Management Systems, or other IT related discipline
  • 3+ years programming experience with scripting languages
  • 3+ years of Git and integration with Git development to operational workflow
Pre-Employment Requirements:

Possession of at least one technical or cloud vendor certifications such as:

  • AWS Certifications (Associate Level – Architect, Developer, System Administrator or Professional Levels)
  • Microsoft Azure Certifications in Associate level - Administration or Architect or Professional
