Job Summary:

.ADOA-ASET develops and executes the statewide IT strategy for Arizona state government and provides IT infrastructure and services to state agencies to ensure continuity of mission critical and essential systems. ASET is managed by Arizona’s State CIO and serves as an information technology leader for AZ government.

The Cloud Solutions Architect is responsible for designing and implementing enterprise infrastructure and platforms required for cloud computing. Analyzes system requirements and ensures that systems will be securely integrated with current applications. Cloud architects are responsible for managing the cloud computing architecture in an organization, including the front-end platforms, servers, storage, delivery and networks required to manage cloud storage.

Job Duties:
  • Design and transfer applications to the cloud, developing and implementing corporate cloud strategy (including necessary information management strategy and policy). 
  • Create a well-informed enterprise cloud strategy, necessary policy framework, and manage the adoption process. 
  • Offer expert guidance in infrastructure movement techniques including bulk application transfers into the cloud and will identify the top cloud architecture solutions to successfully meet the strategic needs of the agency. 
  • Provide architectural guidance for new cloud projects; documents cloud lessons learned. 
  • Create and maintain documentation artifacts such as design diagrams, data flow diagrams, deployment diagrams, infrastructure diagrams, etc. 
  • Define governance frameworks for the operation and management of cloud services. 
  • Develop and organize cloud systems, with a focus on enabling machine learning, and artificial intelligence capabilities and will regularly evaluate cloud applications, hardware, and software.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

Knowledge of:

  • Excellent understanding of typical multi-tier architectures: web servers, caching, application servers, load balancers, and storage. 
  • Understanding of Relational Database Management System (RDBMS) and NoSQL 
  • Knowledge of message queuing and Enterprise Service Bus (ESB). 
  • Familiarity with loose coupling and stateless systems. 
  • Understanding of different consistency models in distributed systems. 
  • Knowledge of Content Delivery Networks (CDN). 
  • Experience with route tables, access control lists, firewalls, NAT, HTTP, DNS, IP and OSI Network. 
  • Knowledge of RESTful Web Services, XML, JSON. 
  • Familiarity with the software development life-cycle. 
  • Work experience with information and application security concepts, mechanisms, and tools. 
  • Awareness of end-user computing and collaborative technologies. 
  • Large-scale distributed systems architecture.  
  • Information and application security concepts including public key encryption, remote access, access credentials, and certificate-based authentication.

Skilled in:

  • Design, develop, and oversee implementation of end-to-end IT cloud integrated systems. 
  • Develop and execute test plans to check IT cloud infrastructure and systems technical performance. Report on findings and make recommendations for improvement. 
  • System performance tuning. 
  • Hands-on experience with core LAN/WAN network technologies. 
  • Excellent analytical and creative problem-solving skills. 
  • Excellent listening, interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills. 
  • Strong customer service orientation. 
  • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.

Ability to:

  • Exercise independent judgment and take action on it. 
  • Be logical and efficient, with keen attention to detail. 
  • Be highly self-motivated and directed. 
  • Effectively prioritize and execute tasks while under pressure.
Selective Preference(s):
  • Associate level Cloud Architecture Certification from a major Cloud Services Provider.
Pre-Employment Requirements:
  • Background and reference check, including a state and federal criminal records check 
  • Requires possession of and the ability to retain a current, valid state-issued driver’s license appropriate to assignment. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records and must complete any required driving training (see Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207.12).
