Job Summary:

The Communications Manager will be responsible for developing, implementing and overseeing the Arizona Historical Society {AHS) communications strategy. Scope of communications includes developing and issuing press releases, managing AHS website content and social media presence; creating and placing advertisements; developing collateral materials; overseeing membership communications; managing the annual fund campaign; developing and distributing internal communications for AHS announcements, events, meetings, policies and other important AHS communications. The communication manager will develop community relationships to promote AHS among multiple constituencies and develop useful relationships with media partners. The communication manager will be the official voice of AHS in external communications.

Job Duties:
  • Social Media: Develop and implement strategic social media plan that builds AHS attendance, membership, brand recognition and donor contributions. Social media responsibilities include developing a social media calendar, developing internal social media policy, creating engaging content and serving as Administrator for all AHS social media accounts. Collaboration with Archives, Collections and other AHS functional areas.
  • Content Management: Responsible for overseeing the content presented on AHS website, including creating, editing, posting, updating, and cleaning up outdated content. Ensure consistent messaging and adherence to brand standards. Manage AHS website maintenance, including WordPress and plug-in updates; server licenses and contracts; domain-name licenses and user authority.
  • Outreach: Oversee activities of Outreach Coordinator, including membership database management, communications to current and prospective museum members and volunteers, mailings and electronic messages. Develop outreach strategy for growing membership in AHS communities, and execute through Outreach Coordinator. Identify ways to more effectively recruit new members, and retain existing members.
  • Marketing: Develop and implement strategic AHS marketing plan that builds AHS attendance, membership, brand recognition and donor contributions. Includes the development and execution of an advertising plan and budget; development and placement of advertisement and development of collateral in collaboration with appropriate areas.
  • Public Relations: Develop and maintain current media contact list; write and distribute press releases. Develop relationships with key media partners; seek opportunities for editorial coverage.
  • Communication's Support: Work with Exhibits and Event opening activities to develop and distribute appropriate signage, print materials and external communications.
  • Personnel Management: Oversee activities of the Graphic Designer, prioritizing work and providing creative support as required. Provide employee coaching and performance feedback.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):
  • Proficiency with Adobe Illustrator and Photo shop. Proficiency with social media for business use -Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.
  • Proficiency with office software programs, -MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google Docs, Google Sheets, Google Slides.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills. Must have the ability to effectively deal with internal and external customers with tact and diplomacy. Friendly, polite, gregarious, positive manner.
  • Ability to effectively communicate both orally and written, To prioritize and manage multiple time sensitive tasks with accuracy and efficiency.
  • Self motivated, with strong problem-solving skills and drive for results.
  • Ability to make administrative/procedural
    decision and judgments.
  • Good math skills and knowledge of accepted business and accounting procedures.
Selective Preference(s):
  • Bachelor's degree in communication, public relations, marketing or related field. 3 years experience in lieu of education.

  • Must have a valid Arizona driver's license or the ability to obtain one.
