The Department of Emergency & Military Affairs (DEMA) is the headquarters for the Arizona National Guard. The Army National Guard is "Always Ready - Always There" providing military forces to accomplish community, State and Federal missions. The Air National Guard maintains excellence with flexible, sustainable, expeditionary and joint interoperable capabilities in all facets of current Federal and State missions. The Division of Emergency Management’s mission is to coordinate emergency services and efforts to governmental agencies to reduce the impact of disaster on person and property. The Division of Administrative Services maintains the business operations of human resources, finance, purchasing/contracting, and legislative activities. Many positions posted do not require military membership.

CUSTODIAL WORKER II

Salary: $14.3713 per hour (DOE) 

Grade: 10

Job Summary:

Under general supervision, the Custodial Worker II provides basic janitorial and/or minor maintenance services in various administrative, maintenance, or other DEMA operated government facilities. Cleans hard surfaced floors (including stripping, finishing/refinishing) walls, and carpeting; assists in inventorying, ordering and distributing job related supplies; changes bulbs, tubes, ballasts, and A/C filters; and may assist in general grounds keeping functions and assists in training new team members. May work with or supervise DOC minimum-security inmates.

Job Duties:

Responsibilities include:
• Empty trash, sweep, wet mop and clean fixtures in the restrooms. Ensure supplies (toilet tissue, soap and paper towels) are replenished. Supervision of Inmates as needed.
• Empty wastepaper baskets, sweep, dust mop and wet mop when necessary for various offices.
• Dust or clean furniture, fixtures, windowsills, registers, doors, walls and windows.
• Distribute supplies from storage area, clean equipment, replace light bulbs/fluorescent tubes. Ensure storage areas, supply cabinets and buildings are secured after use.
• Assist or perform the stripping of wax, re-wax, and polish floors. Assist or do the vacuuming, cleaning and shampooing of carpets.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

Knowledge of:
• Occupational hazards and safety precautions.
• Policies and procedures established for work area.
• Cleaning methods, materials, and practices.
• Operations and care of vacuum cleaners, scrubbing/polishing machines, and other custodial equipment.
• Chemical reactions of cleaning products and their use on certain types of surfaces.
• Tools, safety procedures and light mechanical operations including plumbing and lighting.
• Rules and regulations to supervise inmates.
• Methodology to perform assigned tasks.


Skilled in:
• Uses of vacuum cleaners, scrubbing/polishing machines and other custodial equipment.


Ability to:
• Organize and managing time.
• Problem solving.
• Identifying training needs.
• Teaching operation and care of commercial custodial equipment.
• Identifying and correcting unsafe work areas.
• Recording and reporting expendable supplies and equipment inventories.
• Effective written and verbal communication.
• Establish and maintain effective interpersonal relationships.
• Supervise DOC minimum security prisoners.
• Adjust or change work assignments within pre-established limits

Selective Preference(s):

Desired qualifications include any combination of experience, education and training that meets the knowledge, skills, and abilities described. Includes previous training and experience in custodial work. A Commercial Drivers License (CDL) is not required but would be a plus.

Pre-Employment Requirements:

• Requires possession of and ability to retain a current, valid state issued driver's license. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver's license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records and must complete a required driver training (See Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207.12).
• In State travel required.
• Must be able to pass fingerprint and security clearance check.
• Must be willing and able to supervise DOC minimum-security inmates.
