• The Data Analyst is responsible for performing duties associated with data analysis and generating reports. Responsibilities include cleaning, validating, maintaining, merging, transforming, and analyzing data from multiple large-scale databases. The Data Analyst works collaboratively on the development and maintenance of key reproducible workflows that fulfill state and federal requirements for reporting, accountability, and data analysis.
• This position plays a key service role in the agency by supporting the data needs of schools and districts, school improvement and school support professionals, Department of Education program areas, the legislature, and other stakeholders. The Data Analyst also coordinates with program areas and Information Technology staff to fulfill programmatic objectives.
• Rare in-state and out-of-state travel is required for this position.
The Arizona Department of Education currently utilizes a hybrid work environment, with up to two days of remote work (contingent upon business needs). Candidates should apply with an ability and willingness to work in-office up to five days per week as business needs necessitate.
• Data gathering, data analysis, report generation, presentation preparation, data visualization
• Provide data coaching/professional development for internal and external stakeholders
• Data and document management, version control, and maintenance of libraries and procedures
Knowledge in:
• Working knowledge of research and statistical methods
• Data verification and validation procedures
• Strong knowledge of data analysis tools and procedures using Python or R
• This position requires a bachelor's degree in computer science, data science, business analytics, education and measurement, or another area with sufficient equivalent experience in data analysis to substitute for an analytical degree (for instance, a degree in education leadership and a data science bootcamp program)
Skills in:
• Strong communication skills with an emphasis on data coaching and training for various stakeholders
• Utilization of statistical computer software, such as Python or R
• Development of public-facing data dashboards (Power BI preferred)
• Professional communication skills, both orally and in writing, with an ability to understand and apply legal statutes
• Experience using Structured Query Language (SQL)
• Intermediate skill in Microsoft Office Suite programs (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel)
• Some familiarity with Microsoft data products and uses (Power Query, Power Pivot, M, DAX, Power Apps)
Ability to:
• Analyze data, including interpreting findings and communicating with a wide variety of audiences
• Collect, manage, and organize project data
• Maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders
• Convey directions and instructions to all levels of personnel and stakeholders, using both written and verbal forms of communication, in a clear and precise manner
Preference will be given to those applicants with:
• Experience in education data or a related field such as public health, public administration, sociology, psychology, statistical theory, research methodology, or economics
• Master's degree in data or computer science, quantitative analysis, educational measurement/psychometrics, or sufficient, equivalent, related work experience
• Experience and facility with Microsoft SQL Server, Git, Power BI
• Understanding of requirements under IDEA, ESSA, and ARS Title 15
