Job Summary:

The Arizona Game and Fish Department is looking for a dedicated, team oriented Database Architect to work with us to provide architectural support for database development, enhancement and migrations.

Job Duties:

The Database Architect will determine database structural requirements by analyzing client operations, applications and programming and proactively solve unique and complex problems. This position will develop database solutions by designing proposed systems and defining database physical structure and functional capabilities, security, back-up, and recovery specifications.

The position develops enterprise architectural models based on project requirements and will install database systems by developing flowcharts and applying optimum access techniques while coordinating installation actions, providing appropriate documentation. Continuous monitoring and maintenance of database performance by identifying and resolving production and application development problems, calculating optimum values for parameters and evaluating, integrating, and installing new releases.

The Database Architect position serves as a technical expert for the Department’s database structural requirements and will lead initiatives to develop solutions to meet needs. The position will research and suggest new technologies to improve database performance. Provides technical expertise in developing architectural frameworks for enterprise databases and will provide support for development, enhancement and migrations of databases, repositories, operational data stores and warehouses.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

The candidate must have a thorough knowledge of the theory, principles and practices of system specification standards, working knowledge of physical data models, technical architecture, system interfaces, normalized and dimensional modeling techniques, and the principles of software development life cycle. The candidate must have working knowledge of various industry standards for data capture, transmission, consumption and reporting. The candidate will have skill in managing indexes, troubleshooting deadlocks, with strong skill in design. The candidate must have strong oral and written communication skills and will be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

To be successful as an Database Architect, you must have strong analytical and communication skills to provide excellent customer service to internal/external customers. A good Database Architect is a life-long learner and applies their knowledge to develop cutting-edge solutions.

 
Pre-Employment Requirements:

The candidate must have a Bachelor's degree (or higher) in database administration with at least 7 or more years in database administration and analysis (or equivalent).

Position requires possession of and the ability to retain a current, valid state-issued driver’s license appropriate to the assignment. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records and must complete any required driver training (see Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207.12.).
