Job Summary:

The DCS Visitation Case Aide will provide assistance, training, and guidance to families, children, and adults involved with the Department of Child Safety (DCS). The DCS Visitation Case Aide will supervise parent/child/family visits and document interactions to ensure compliance with visitation requirements and while assisting parent/child/families with general questions and issues.

Candidates who are successfully employed as Case Aide for five (5) years will be eligible to apply for a promotional opportunity to a DCS Specialist Position, grade 17 ($45,136 annually).

Alternative work hours may be required, including overtime, weekends and holidays at the discretion of the supervisor.

Bi-Lingual Stipend
DCS offers a Bi-Lingual Stipend to all interested and eligible DCS Employees who successfully complete a language proficiency exam. Qualifying employees will receive a $500 annual stipend paid in equal increments.

Job Duties:

• Supervises parent/child/family visits and documents interactions to ensure compliance with visitation requirements. Reviews and enforces visitation guidelines/expectations with case participants. Issues/concerns are elevated to the Visitation Program Supervisor and assigned DCS field staff for resolution.
• Drives case participants to visitation locations, supervises visits, and documents observations. Coordinates with all case participants on a date/time/location for visitation that works for all parties. Communicates in a courteous and a respectful manner with birth parents, providers, relatives, team members, co-workers, and the general public.
• Provides one-on-one instruction/role-playing when needed/appropriate during supervised visitation time. Will assist case participants when applicable with home management and child development during visitation time. Assists case participants with information/guidance and provides community resources when appropriate to increase self-sufficiency.
• Documents and/or enters case notes into CHILDS database. Information documented should be concise and accurate. Conducts an initial intake with case participants and gather information which may be utilized for future supervised visitation decisions. Monitors and tracks visits, transportation, case notes and provide a weekly report to the DCS Visitation Unit supervisor.
• Collaborates and provides updates to the assigned DCS field specialist as questions/issues/concerns arise. Provides assistance to parents, children, family and community partners as it relates to supervised visitation services.
• Performs other duties appropriate to the assignment

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

Knowledge of:
• Current state, federal and district laws, and policies regarding child welfare services
• Resources available in the community that may be utilized on behalf of clients
• Policies, procedures, and practices of court FCRB with regards to cases involving custody and placement of children
• Development and behavioral problems of children's cultural, environmental and community influences on the behavior and development of individuals
• Personal computers

• Address hostile situations (e.g., terminating visits if harmful to clients)
• Identify resources available in the community
• Gain understanding of the effects and problems of foster care, and social, intellectual and behavioral problems of developmentally disabled children
• Adhere to general policies, procedures, and practices of court foster care review board with regards to cases involving custody and placement of children
• Learn and adhere to DCS policies and regulations applicable to assigned programs
• Actively listen and provide supportive attention to clients

Selective Preference(s):

• High school diploma or GED
• Experience working with children in a controlled environment

Pre-Employment Requirements:

- In-state travel is required. Requires possession of and ability to retain a current, valid state-issued driver license appropriate to the assignment. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver license record check, must maintain an acceptable driving record and must complete any required driver training (see Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207.11). Employees may be required to use their own transportation as well as maintain valid motor vehicle insurance and current Arizona vehicle registration. Mileage may be reimbursed, if applicable.

- The ability to secure and maintain an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card and the ability to secure and maintain clearance from the DCS Central Registry.
