Job Summary:

As an Environmental Science Specialist, This individual will help build the bench of talent for ADEQ by bringing technical excellence to the agency. This individual will serve the business needs by building a better foundation for compliance assistance along with strengthening customer relations and problem-solving with customers (if issues are identified). The person hired for the position will have the opportunity to improve the technical and operational excellence of the group by helping develop new process improvements. This position will require regulatory understanding and application skills, problem-solving, teamwork, customer service, and communication.

This position is available for remote work on a full-time basis within Arizona (including virtual office arrangements).

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

• Knowledge of State and Federal environmental regulations pertaining to solid waste, environmental sciences, and research, AZ sources of pollution, best practices for preventing the release of pollutants, investigation techniques, statistical analysis, agency policies, and processes
• Ability to understand and apply environmental rules and statutes; to follow guidance documents, standard operating procedures, and other technical instructions in the performance of tasks; to prepare clear, concise, and accurate reports; excellent verbal and written communication
• Additional skills expected to be filled include professional communication, research, customer service/outreach, project management, advanced problem solving and facilitation, Excel, PDF, and technology use. Attention to detail, quality assurance, and adherence to standard work are among other skills needed in the team.

Pre-Employment Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in environmental management/science/studies, geology, earth sciences, law, or sustainability
• Level 2: Requires two years of experience
