Job Summary:

• The School Safety and Social Wellness team within the Arizona Department of Education (ADE) helps educators support the emotional, mental, and physical health and safety of students. The unit comprises several state and federally funded grants and contracts that work towards the team's purpose. The Director of Business Operations aids the team by overseeing the grants application process, developing budgets and financial reports, monitoring program expenditures, and implementing procurement activities in coordination with the program areas. Further, this position ensures compliance and coordination with state, federal, and agency fiscal requirements and processes through the interpretation of state and federal regulation and the development of unit procedures.
• As a supervisor, this position will have duties related to staff including overseeing and directing work activities; conducting regular one-on-one meetings; providing coaching and mentoring; administering performance evaluations; managing schedules and leave requests; and hiring and training.
• In-state travel is required for this position.

Job Duties:

• Supports the Grants Team Lead in developing, approving, and managing the grant application process and in providing technical assistance and training to grantees
• Manages the financial and operational activities of the unit including grant application responsibilities, preparation, and monitoring of budgets, development of financial reports, and implementation of procurement activities
• Acts as liaison between the unit and agency business offices, including Grants, Budget, and Procurement
• Oversee and coordinate office management operations, including materials storage and supplies and equipment inventory
• Attend office, stakeholder, and partner meetings as required

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

• A Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, or a related field or equivalent working experience is required
• Position requires supervisory experience (graduates of ADE’s Aspiring Leaders program may be considered in lieu of supervisory experience).

• High skill level with Microsoft Office including Excel or similar spreadsheet programs

Selective Preference(s):

• Preference will be given to those applicants with a Master’s in Business Administration (MBA)

• Position requires possession of and ability to retain a current, valid state-issued driver’s license appropriate to the assignment.
