Job Summary:

The Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation & Reentry (ADCRR) is seeking a highly experienced and strategic healthcare leader to serve as Director of Nursing. This executive-level position is responsible for the oversight of contracted vendors and the appropriate, timely, professional health services to inmates at the assigned state facilities and/or contracted prisons. This position will lead in the development of methodology for quality assurance audits and compliance with federal and state laws relevant to healthcare practice, ADCRR policies and procedures, various rules and regulations and the National Commission on Correctional Health Care (NCCHC) accreditation standards.

Job Duties:

- Provides managerial oversight and direction to subordinate staff that observes vendor and operational processes that pertains to inmate health care which may include medication administration and maintenance of medication areas
- Ensures timely and appropriateness of care for inmate population
- Conducts chart reviews and monitors patient care to support improved patient outcome
- Completes special projects and assignments within given time frames
- Prepares correspondences, reports and analysis and recommendations
- Attends meetings and tours facilities as needed
- Supervises, guides, and provides career development to subordinate staff
- Approves leave requests and time sheets
- Monitors and evaluates work products and performance
- Drives on State Business
- Other duties as assigned to the position

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

Knowledge of:

-Principles and practices of correctional healthcare management and supervision as set forth by the U.S. Constitution, National Commission on Correctional Health Care, American Correctional Association
-Personnel and administrative procedures and laws (State and Federal) relative to licensed and/or certified health care staff, as well as general staff
-Procedure analysis and policy development
-Laws, rules regulations, policies and procedures pertaining to the privatization and administration of inmate medical, mental health, and dental care
-Action plan development
-Principles and practices of quality assurance
-Development and implementation strategies
-Advanced knowledge of the principles of fiscal management, including budget, procurement, and outside contracting
-Computer skills in Windows operating system and general working knowledge of the Department’s standardized databases

Selective Preference(s):

Preferred a minimum of three (3) years experience in correctional healthcare administration and leadership roles

Registered Nurse or higher clinical license

Pre-Employment Requirements:

Unrestricted Nursing License from the State of Arizona Board of Nursing

Employment is contingent on the selected applicant passing a background investigation.

In an effort to maintain a safe environment, all employees are required to take a Tuberculosis (TB) test during their New Employee Orientation and every year thereafter.

Any employee operating a motor vehicle on State business must possess and retain a current, valid class-appropriate driver’s license, complete all required training, and successfully pass all necessary driver’s license record checks. The license must be current, unexpired, and neither revoked nor suspended. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records, and must complete all required driver training. An employee who operates a personally owned vehicle on state business shall maintain the statutorily required liability insurance (see Arizona Administrative Code (A.A.C.) R2-10-207.11).

Retirement:

Positions in this classification participate in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS).
Enrollment eligibility will become effective after 27 weeks of employment.
