The Preparedness Reservist Specialist supports the DEMA Mission by providing emergency management capabilities to Arizona. Incumbent will support coordination activities in the areas of emergency preparedness, logistics, response, recovery and operational efforts in order to reduce the impact of emergencies and disaster on people and property in the Whole Community. The Preparedness Reservist Specialist works under the direction of the Director's Office but is assigned to the Preparedness Section. Staff member could serve as Situation Unit member during activation and exercise operations.
Actively participates in promoting a continuous improvement workplace culture, through the use of teamwork, root cause problem solving, standard operating procedures, and review of performance metrics.
Responsibilities include:
• Prepares or coordinates preparation of maps and geospatial dashboards; develops and runs programming scripts for process automation; analyzes and interprets statistics and planning data for developing plans during emergency incidents, exercises, steady state operations, and long-term planning and preparedness goals.
• Works collaboratively with others on a variety of technology and technology support projects.
• Attends training workshops to learn and maintain a working knowledge of emergency management principles, standards and practices. Attends FEMA related and other emergency management courses to enhance their knowledge of the four phases of disaster response. Trains for specific SEOC/EOC/MACC positions and performs duties as assigned in accordance with internal agency policy.
• Assigned to the State Emergency Operations Center (SEOC) Plans Section during activation or exercises, or other SEOC positions as required. Coordinates with the Situation Unit Leader (SitL), any assigned Technical Specialists, and the Documentation Unit Leader (DOCL) for collecting, interpreting, and displaying situational awareness information.
• Provides technical support to both internal and external customers.

• GIS theory and concepts
• Map projections and coordinate systems
• Database management systems
• Esri technologies
• Appropriate methods of communication and active listening
• Knowledge of Emergency Operations Center principles and Incident Management Team operations
Skilled in:
• Ability to research, edit and create professional maps
• Talking to others to convey information effectively
• Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions to problems
• Data Programming / Software skills
• Providing technical support and formal and informal instruction to end users
• Remaining professional when dealing with internal/external customers
• Utilizing a personal computer, Microsoft Teams and other system software to support emergency management efforts
Ability to:
• Gather, read, interpret, and maintain data for various reports, end users’ needs and management requests
• Create, modify, and manipulate datasets
• Produce reports and technical documentation
• Provide and maintain Technical Support to end users
• Write clear, concise, and accurate reports

Special Job Requirements:
This position requires possession of and ability to retain a current, valid Arizona state-issued driver's license appropriate to the assignment. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver's license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records and must complete any required driver training (see Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207.12.)
In/out of State travel required.
Individual is required to pass a criminal background investigation.
Personally prepares for anytime (24/7) response and no-notice recall to the State or Alternate Emergency Operations Center (SEOC) and/or Joint Field Office (JFO) during disaster or exercise activations.
