Under the general supervision of a Sergeant, the Full Authority Training Officer position plans, oversees, coordinates and implements the Enforcement and Compliance and the Office of Inspector General training program for all sworn and non-sworn staff. Assists department staff with individual training plans and makes recommendations for training: ensures that staff complies with the Arizona Peace Officer Standards and Training (AZPOST) Continuing and/or proficiency training; assists in identifying and resolving problems related to training issues.
Tracks employee training hours; updates and maintains training records through Power DMS. Prepares and maintains accurate and complete records of the work performed; prepares clear and concise reports to monitor the success of training programs; creates related written materials.
This position is required to have the AZPOST General Instructor and AZPOST Firearms certification. An individual who has served honorably as a peace officer in Arizona and their certification as a peace officer has lapsed, or served in another state or a federal agency, may be eligible to gain Arizona POST certification through Waiver Testing in lieu of attending an Arizona peace officer basic course at an academy.
The selected candidate will have to complete the Peace Officer Physical aptitude Test (POPAT) prior to the background process. Background check and In-state travel is required.
Work with staff to identify training needs and opportunities; schedule training activities and functions, plans, oversees, coordinates, and implements ESB and OIG training program for all sworn and non-sworn staff. Plans, oversees, coordinates department field training program to include developing. implementing, teaching training curriculum statewide.
Maintains detailed calendar of department training events, activities, and hosting events; arranges appointments, schedules, conferences, travel arrangements, and itineraries. Foster close working relationships with academy and academy staff. Serve as department liaison to the academy and monitor and report to supervisions recruit progress.
Coordinates special projects, assignments, and activities as assigned. Performs administrative duties required in the maintenance of the department's firearms including ensuring proper upkeep and maintenance. Prepares and maintains accurate and complete records of the work performed; prepares clear and concise reports to monitor the success of training programs; creates related written materials.

The ideal candidate will have a knowledge of administrative duties required in the maintenance of the departments firearms including ensuring proper upkeep and maintenance and purchasing supplies including firearms, Tasers, and other related duty equipment.
As this position requires driving or the use of a vehicle as an essential function of the job, then the following requirements apply. Any employee operating a motor vehicle on State business must possess and retain a current, valid class-appropriate driver’s license, complete all required training, and successfully pass all necessary driver’s license record checks. The license must be current, unexpired, and neither revoked nor suspended. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records, and must complete all required driver training. An employee who operates a personally owned vehicle on state business shall maintain the statutorily required liability insurance (see Arizona Administrative Code (A.A.C.) R2-10-207.11).
