This position is available for remote work on a full-time basis within Arizona (including virtual office arrangement).

Job Summary:

Job Summary: Drafting air quality permits which includes drafting conditions that are enforceable and assure compliance with state and federal air pollution laws and regulations. Review and processing of detailed technical reports received from the regulated community.  This is a flexible position and you will have the option to work remotely within Arizona. 

Job Duties: Major Responsibilities:
  • Review and evaluate environmental permit applications, reports, facility designs, plans and cost estimates.
  • Develop permits, action plans and recommendations based on the review and evaluation of applicable environmental regulations.
  • Participate in site visits, data collection, inspections, and investigations regarding environmental topics.
  • Review technical/program documents and applications.
  • Perform environmental calculations based on provided methodologies.
  • Provide technical assistance to the regulated community, staff, and the public pertaining to environmental impact and regulation.
  • Assist in preparing environmental guidance documents.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):
  • Ability to understand and interpret environmental rules and statutes; balance, prioritize and organize multiple tasks and complete assignments by applicable deadlines; synthesize feedback and adjust plans accordingly; develop and write technical documentation; and to summarize completed tasks and recommendations to senior staff through reports.
  • Knowledge of State and Federal environmental regulations, environmental engineering and technology principles and practices, chemical composition, structure and properties of substances and of the chemical processes and transformations they undergo in the environment, Agency policies and processes.
Selective Preference(s):
  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental/chemical engineering, atmospheric chemistry/science, meteorology or environmental science
  • Level 1: Requires 0-2 years’ experience 
  • Level 2: Requires 2 years’ experience (Masters’ degree or Doctorate may substitute for 2 years’ experience)
  • Level 3:  Requires 5 years’ experience (Master’s degree can substitute for 2 years of experience, Doctorate can substitute for 4 years of experience). Engineer in Training certification through the Arizona Board of Technical Registration or equivalent organization required or the ability to obtain it within 1 year of hire
