The Environmental Engineering Specialist will be responsible for reviewing and evaluating
environmental permit applications, reports, facility designs, plans and cost estimates in accordance with Arizona Rules and Statutory Regulations. This position will perform engineering duties in the prevention, control and remediation of environmental hazards using various engineering disciplines in order to protect Groundwater and Reclaim Water in the State of Arizona. This position will have experience in the field of engineering as it relates to permitting of wastewater treatment facilities and mines.
Primary Responsibilities:
● Review and approve environmental permit applications within the Aquifer Protection Permit
Program including design reports, construction plans, analytical data and cost estimates.
● Provide technical assistance to the regulated community, staff, and the public in regards to
operations and maintenance of waste water treatment technologies and mining.
● Perform engineering calculations for effluent flow, pressure, velocity, storage capacity, etc.
● Knowledge of industry leading Best Available Demonstrated Control Technologies (BADCT).
● Develop environmental guidance documents, policies and outreach material.
● Utilize Lean concepts to drive ongoing continuous improvement.
Knowledge of environmental engineering standards and practices
● Ability to review and evaluate the Arizona Revised Statutes and Arizona Administrative Code
to ensure that permit applications meet legal requirements.
● Ability to problem solve with an attention to detail
● Ability to develop and write technical documentation
● Excellent verbal and written communication
Bachelor’s degree in Environmental, Civil, or Chemical Engineering, along with two (2) years of
experience
● Level 2: Requires 2 years’ experience, Engineering in Training preferred
● Level 3: Requires 5 years’ experience, Engineering in Training required
● Level 2: Masters’ degree may substitute for 2 years of experience; Level 3: Masters’ degree
may substitute for 2 years’ experience, Doctorate 4 years’ experience)
