The Environmental Engineering Specialist 3 will be responsible for reviewing environmental applications, reports, rules, and plans, draft and coordinate timely issuance of environmental regulations, permits, licenses, approvals or certifications which include site specific requirements and variances for applicable environmental standards.

Take a prominent technical role in working with industrial and municipal facilities, responsible parties and individuals to ensure compliance with environmental laws and regulations. Investigate complex environmental problem areas, conduct complex environmental inspections, respond to environmental complaints, and recommend or issue reports as needed.

Analyze environmental data to determine validity, quality, and scientific significance and to interpret correlations between data, human activities and environmental effects with peer or management review.

Correspond professionally and expeditiously with applicants, stakeholders, and the public on environmental issues.

Job Duties:

Primary Responsibilities:

• Provide technical assistance to the regulated community, staff, and the public in regards to on-site wastewater and sewage collection system treatment technologies, operations, and maintenance
• Participate in site visits, data collection, inspections and investigations at on-site wastewater and sewage collection systems.
• Review and approve environmental permit applications for on-site wastewater, sewage collection systems, and swimming pools including design reports, construction plans, analytical data and cost estimates
• Perform engineering calculations for water flow, pressure, velocity, storage capacity, etc.
• Provide internal training and external training at technical conferences and workshops
• Develop environmental guidance documents, policies and outreach material.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

• Knowledge of Arizona groundwater statutes and rules.
• Knowledge of environmental engineering standards and practices
• Experience in designing drinking on-site wastewater and sewage collection systems and reviewing constructions drawings
• Ability to problem solve and attention to detail
• Ability to develop and write technical documentation
• Experience running on-site wastewater and sewage collection systems is desirable

Selective Preference(s):

• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental, Civil, or Chemical Engineering, along with five (5) years of experience.
• Master’s degree may substitute for 2 years of experience
• Doctorate may substitute for 4 years of experience
