The Hydrogeologist will be in our Source Water Protection Unit and be responsible for the
safeguarding of surface and ground water for current and future drinking water needs for Public Water Systems (PWSs) throughout Arizona.
This position may be available for remote work within Arizona (2 days per week in the office/hoteling).

• Complete Source Water Assessments (SWA)
• Use predictive analytics to help prevent Nitrate exceedances
• Work on Emerging Contaminants
• Assess Synthetic Organic Compounds (SOC) and Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) waivers
• Review Groundwater Representative Monitoring Plans (GWRMP)
• Work with Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) to secure funding opportunities
• Complete annual report for the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)
• Prepare for a Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS) Maximum Contaminant Level (MCL)
Knowledge of:
• Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) and state regulations
• Public Water Systems including wells, chlorinators, tanks, treatment, pumps, valves, etc.
• LEAN management/ Arizona Management System (results-driven management system focusing on customer service, transparency and accountability and continuous improvement)
• Gmail, Google Meets, Google Drive, Calendar, Docs, Sheets, Slides, etc.
• Environmental laboratory data and units of measurement
• Trello to document and track work
Skills and Abilities:
• Self-motivated with the ability to complete tasks without direct supervision
• Balance, prioritize, and organize multiple tasks
• Strong customer service skills
• Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills
• Professionally represent ADEQ to the community and other state agencies
• Develop and write technical documentation
• Conduct training events
• Utilize computer applications and programs in performance of daily tasks
• Problem solve and attention to detail
• Bachelor’s degree in Hydrology, Geology Environmental Science/Management, Chemistry, Biology, Environmental/Civil Engineering, Sustainability or related field.
• Level 2: two (2) years of experience
• Level 3: five (5) years of experience Geologist-in-Training (GIT) Certification or Professional /Registered Geologist
• Master’s degree in related field may substitute for 2 years of experience
• Doctorate in related field may substitute for 5 years of experience
Pertinent training such as military or trade schooling may be evaluated for equivalency with college level coursework.
