Job Summary:

As an Environmental Science Specialist, you will support our Groundwater Protection Program by performing inspections, compliance and enforcement at regulated facilities in Arizona, providing compliance assistance in the field or from office on groundwater rules and improve compliance throughout the state of Arizona, conducting compliance assistance site visits to new owners/operations and customers with open compliance conditions, review available information, use scientific principles, for the purpose of assessing compliance with Arizona statutes and rules, create compliance documentation and assisting with compliance management.

Job Duties: Primary Responsibilities:
  • Conducts risk-based inspections at regulated sites, file reviews and complaint inspections throughout the state of Arizona
  • Provides compliance assistance in the field and increases compliance at the time of inspection.
  • Works with permitted facilities to reduce the number of open compliance cases, and reduce the time required to return facilities to compliance.
  • Reduces Aquifer Quality Limit (AQL)/Discharge Limit (DL) exceedances through inspections, outreach and compliance assistance.
  • Accelerates resolution of engineering issues through collaboration and compliance assistance with engineering for wastewater systems
  • Provides innovative solutions to reoccurring compliance issues.
  • Utilize Lean concepts to drive ongoing continuous improvement
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):
  • Ability to understand and apply environmental rules and statues; to follow guidance documents, standard operating procedures, and other technical instructions in performance of tasks; to prepare clear, concise and accurate reports; and to summarize completed tasks and/or monitoring data orally and in written communication
  • Knowledge in MS Office, customer service/outreach and aptitude for problem solving desired.
  • Skills Strong organizational skills and ability to schedule, conduct and manage multiple projects at the same time
Selective Preference(s):
  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental/chemical engineering, environmental/earth science, environmental management/studies, and/or sustainability.
  • Level 1: Requires 0-1 year experience
