This position is available for remote work on a full-time basis within Arizona (including virtual office arrangement).

Job Summary:

As an Environmental Science Specialist, you will conduct research or perform investigation for the purpose of identifying, abating, or eliminating sources of pollutants or hazards that affect either the environment or the health of the population. Using knowledge of various scientific disciplines, you may collect, synthesize, study, report, and recommend action based on data derived from measurement or observations of surface water.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):
  • Familiarity/knowledge with GIS and understanding of hydrography maps.
  • Knowledge of the Arizona Waters and surface water quality, Clean Water Act and WOTUS rules.
  • Knowledge of or experience with bioassessment/biocriteria, water quality and flow regime research, water quality standard work and jurisdictional evaluations preferred.
  • Well-developed review, research and technical writing skills.
  • Ability to conduct fieldwork surveys.
  • Strong communication skills and a passion for environmental work are paramount.
  • Knowledge of State and Federal environmental regulations, environmental sciences and research, AZ sources of pollution, best practices for preventing the release of pollutants, environmental research, investigation techniques and statistical analysis, Agency policies and processes.
Selective Preference(s):
  • Bachelor’s degree in hydrology, environmental science, chemistry, biology, or sustainability preferred. Other degrees such as geology or environmental engineering are acceptable.
  • Level 1: 0-2 years’ experience.
  • Level 2: 2 years’ experience.
  • Level 3: 5 years’ experience (Master’s degree in a related field may substitute for 2 years exp. or a Doctorate in related field may substitute for 5 years exp.) Professional certification as an Environmental Professional or other certification through the Arizona Board of Technical Registration preferred.
  • Experienced in the use of MS office products and Google sheets/documents.
