This position serves as a chief or head of an epidemiology program unit within an Office and is responsible for overall management and supervision of the program and assigned personnel. As a Management Senior Scientist/Epidemiologist, performs supervisory and advanced professional analytical work in surveillance, detection, and prevention of diseases and injuries.
− Overseeing, managing, and supervising the work of epidemiologists and associated staff conducting health surveillance and investigations
− Planning, assigning, scheduling, prioritizing, directing, and coordinating the work of assigned epidemiologists, research analysts, and other staff
− Planning, directing, overseeing, and managing epidemiologic studies and/or urgent outbreak investigations
− Leading the development and conduct of epidemiologic studies for program planning
− Overseeing the design and use of databases and the design and management of surveillance systems
− Developing and evaluating methods of training for health care providers and staff
− Developing and providing scientific and clinical advice and technical assistance to communities and outside partners with respect to surveillance and other epidemiologic data and evaluation
− Participating in after-hours activities including partner meetings, investigation, outbreak, and emergency response as needed
− Participating in writing grants and other funding proposals
− Considerable independent judgment and advanced knowledge of applied epidemiology for public health practice
− Managerial techniques and personnel policies and procedures
− Contemporary principles and practices of epidemiology
− Principles and practices applicable to the control and prevention of diseases
− Methods, procedures, and techniques used in developing, implementing, and maintaining disease surveillance and control programs
− Contemporary medical methods and practices used in the control of a variety of diseases
− Program planning and fiscal monitoring practices and procedures
− Performance Management (PM), and Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI), and Lean methodologies
− Working for management and work leadership
− Oral and written communication
− Interpersonal relations, as applied to contracts with representatives of other governmental and private organizations, physicians, and the public
− Conducting scientific studies and investigations required to identify and isolate various diseases
− Supervision, program planning and administration, contract/budget monitoring, and grant writing
− Public health surveillance, computerized database management, data analysis, program evaluation, literature search, effective verbal and written communication, and interpersonal skills

The ideal candidate will have:
− Masters of public health in Epidemiology and two years of professional experience in the public health agency
− One year of management/supervisory duties
− Ideal candidate will have experience using statistical software, working with the different levels of US health care system and public health system, and working with electronic public health surveillance databases
Driving is required for State Business.
