The Department of Economic Security, Division of Financial Operations, Accounting Administration, is seeking an experienced, highly motivated individual to join our team as a Fixed Assets Accounting Specialist 2. Under the direction of the Fixed Assets Manager, the Accounting Specialist 2 verifies data entry, corrects transactions, resolves rejected transactions, and approves transactions. The Accounting Specialist 2 assists in preparing reports summarizing financial transactions and posts journal and ledger entries.

This position may offer the ability to work remotely, within Arizona, based upon the department's business needs and continual meeting of expected performance measures.

Job Duties:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Reviews, verifies, or analyzes the work of other employees for quality control. Resolves technical work, procedural problems, and questions presented by other employees.
  • Verifies accuracy, timeliness, and proper preparation of correct pay and distribution codes and sequence numbers
  • Compiles information and drafts periodic reports regarding the activities of the work unit
  • Maintains ledger accounts for all transactions
  • Calculates fiscal data for periodic reports. Corrects computations as needed
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

Knowledge in:

  • Principles, methods, and practices of fiscal and financial record keeping
  • Procedures, methods, and office equipment used in statistical record keeping; rules and regulations established for the work system of the Department
  • General office procedures; related laws and ordinances; and productivity tools, such as Microsoft Office, Gmail, and Google Suite applications

Skilled in:

  • Communicating effectively through oral and written mediums
  • Maintaining ledgers and journals; math and research; entering financial data with attention to detail and accuracy; analyzing and interpreting fiscal data; organizing and maintaining precise records; time management; and customer service
  • Establishing priorities among conflicting needs
  • Preparing written reports and business correspondence

Ability to:

  • Understand, interpret, and apply fundamental accounting principles and general fiscal and financial record-keeping practices
  • Accurately and efficiently analyze and interpret fiscal and statistical information
  • Reconcile records and reports; maintain confidentiality
  • Work collaboratively in a team setting, and work independently without supervision when required
Selective Preference(s):

The ideal candidate for this position will have:

  • One year of accounting experience plus a Bachelor's degree with a major in accounting. Experience using the State accounting systems and Human Resources Information systems preferred.
Pre-Employment Requirements:

This position requires driving or the use of a vehicle as an essential function of the job to conduct State business; then the following requirements apply: Driver’s License Requirements. Any employee operating a motor vehicle on State business must possess and retain a current, valid class-appropriate driver’s license, complete all required training, and successfully pass all necessary driver’s license record checks. The license must be current, unexpired, and neither revoked nor suspended. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records, and must complete all required driver training. An employee who operates a personally owned vehicle on state business shall maintain the statutorily required liability insurance (see Arizona Administrative Code (A.A.C.) R2-10-207.11).

Successfully pass background and reference checks; employment is contingent upon completion of the above-mentioned process and the agency’s ability to reasonably accommodate any restrictions.

Retirement:

State employees are required to participate in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS), the State sponsored retirement contribution plan and the Long-Term Disability (LTD) program after a 27-week waiting period. The ASRS defined benefit plan provides for life-long income upon retirement. You will also have the option to participate in a voluntary deferred compensation program to take advantage of tax-deferred retirement investments.
