                                                                                                                                     SEASONAL POSITIONS

The Arizona Department of Agriculture is currently recruiting for up to 40 experienced seasonal Food Product Standardization Inspector II for our Citrus Fruit and Vegetable program. The positions are located in Rio Rico Arizona.

The major job responsibilities are to sample, inspect and issue certificates for fresh produce to ensure meeting USDA grade requirements for entry from Mexico into the United States.

 

Job Duties:

Duties to include but not limited to:

• Respond to technical questions by industry on produce, listens, ask questions, gives information, suggestions or referrals as needed to keep industry informed as to product quality.
• Assists/trains other inspectors as needed, maintaining knowledge to accurately grade products.
• The inspectors will be required to drive their own vehicle to and from various inspection sites in Nogales and Rio Rico, Arizona.
• Positions requires the employee to work in extreme conditions, such as working in coolers at the warehouse sites.
• You may also be required to work 10-12 hours days, 6 to 7 days a week during the peak of the season.
• Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

Knowledge of:
Basic Math Calculations
USDA guidelines in sample selection and grading procedures
Knowledge to interpret written instructions, rules and regulations
USDA Standards on fresh fruit, vegetables and nuts

Skills in:
Use of calculator and basic computer
Interpreting and applying US Grade Standards and Inspection handbook instructions
Handwriting skills and attention to detail
Consistent and unbiased judgment decision making

Ability to:
Follow oral and written instructions
Follow a complex and flexible work schedule
Communicate effectively both orally and in writing
Establish and form a good working relationship with industry workers
Adapt to varied climatic working conditions --- hot, cold, windy etc.

Pre-Employment Requirements:

Valid Driver's Licens

USDA certification or ability to obtain certification
1+ years as a Food Product Standardization Inspector 1
