The GIS Apps Developer position is responsible for the design, development, configuration, and deployment of configurable and custom enterprise tools and applications. This position will create and maintain numerous web- and mobile-based applications that integrate both spatial and non-spatial data as well as non-GIS technologies. Participates in the full software development lifecycle to support production environments and provides geospatial and technical solutions while working with project managers and project stakeholders to meet the needs of internal and external customers. Troubleshoots issues with minimal guidance, identifying bottlenecks and providing solutions for scalable, user-friendly applications. Works with GIS infrastructure lead to administer enterprise databases and geodatabases as well as assist with maintenance of hardware and software within the enterprise environment.
-Developing web, mobile and native application(s) associated with priority and non-priority projects, including data and application analysis and design, coding and configuration, testing, implementation and revision
-Support and maintain existing web and mobile GIS applications that have been deployed to production
-Troubleshoots technical issues impacting internal and external users
-Prepares detailed technical descriptions for how tools and applications are built and deployed, working to develop user documentation and training materials
-Coordinates requirements, schedules, and activities to ensure Department’s goals and overall vision are being met; assists with development of GIS policies and procedures including standard and quality assurance protocols
-Researches and learns new technologies and/or workflows
-Performs other duties as assigned
The candidate will have knowledge of/in:
-GIS theory and concepts
-GIS IT principles and best practices
-Database management systems such as Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL, etc.
-Esri’s ArcGIS API for JavaScript, ArcGIS Runtime SDK for iOS/Android and the ArcGIS REST API and other Esri technologies including ArcGIS Desktop/ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Server, and ArcGIS Data Store and ArcGIS apps (ArcGIS field maps, Survey123 for ArcGIS, Experience builder for ArcGIS, and Esri Story Maps)
-HTML5, Arcade, CSS, XML, JSON, Dojo and Bootstrap
The candidate will have skill in:
-Troubleshooting and resolving complex hardware and/or software issues
-Proficiency in analyzing software requirements and documenting technical specifications
-Developing and writing advanced and complex technical documentation
-Creating applications and interfaces to display data and maps
-Evaluation and testing of emerging technologies
The candidate must have the ability to work independently and as part of a team with the ability to establish and maintain solid working relationships with Department Staff. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, and able to manage multiple tasks or projects simultaneously with the ability to synthesize feedback and adjust plans accordingly.
The candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree and at least three years of relevant work experience. Preference will be given to those who possess either a GISP certification and/or a degree or certificate related to Geographic Information Systems.
