Job Location:

Address:  Phoenix, AZ (Eligible for remote work in Phoenix, AZ)

Posting Details:

Salary: $70,000 - $80,000

Grade: 26

Closing Date: Open until filled

Job Summary:

As GIS Application Developer you will serve an integral role in an award-winning GIS team supporting initiatives across the agency. Collaboration is key, as you will be assessing, recommending, and defining GIS projects with customers and serving as a subject matter expert in areas of data management, application development and configuration, and GIS server administration. You will support current systems (servers, ArcGIS Enterprise, and enterprise geodatabases), processes, and applications used by both internal and external customers, as well as build or configure creative solutions to business problems that align with the IT Department technology stack. Managing and synchronizing the agency’s GIS data between enterprise databases, enterprise geodatabases, network files, and REST services is a core part of this job.

We are looking for a team player who can effectively collaborate with the development and infrastructure IT teams as well as with business units, GIS users, and the GIS team. Someone who has experience automating data processes using Python (especially the ArcGIS API for Python and ArcPy) and working with Enterprise geodatabases, or who demonstrates the ability to learn those areas, would be a great fit. ADEQ is not afraid of changing and updating processes to deliver the best products for our customers, so we would like to hire someone who can look for these areas of opportunity. Our ideal hire would have the leadership skills to be a forward-thinking change agent able to inspire others to help move the perception of GIS capabilities away from traditional map-making toward having a vital role in agency decision making through the power of Location Intelligence.

Selective Preference(s):

Ideal candidate will possess:
● Bachelor's or Master’s degree in GIS, Geomatics, Geography, Computer Science, or Information Systems, or related field
● 2-5 years of data management and analysis or programming experience (in GIS environments is preferred)

Knowledge of:
o Fundamental GIS/GPS principles and practices
o Scripting and GIS APIs (Python, JavaScript) and Enterprise database or geodatabase management systems (Oracle, SQL Server)
o Systems integration and web or other programming experience is a plus

Ability to:
o Work collaboratively and build strong relationships in and across teams
o Quickly learn and develop in new programming or scripting languages, APIs, and platforms
o Create and configure applications, widgets, and interfaces to display and interact with data and maps, while accommodating and accounting for highly complex geospatial aspects of GIS data.
o Create applications and interfaces to answer specific advanced and sometimes highly complex spatial questions
